Wat Phra That Si Suthon Mongkhon Khiri, Phrae Province

Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri or Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri Samakkhi Tham is located on the Phrae-Lampang road in Den Chai district, Phrae province. Its highlight is that it is one of the most beautiful temples that collects applied Lanna art. The murals on the walls of the covered walkway tell stories of local Jatakas and the life of the Buddha. Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri or Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri Samakkhi Tham is a newly built temple in 1977 by the abbot, Khru Ba Noi or Phra Khru Wikhit Phiphathanaphon (Montree Thammathee) and local craftsmen. People pay respect to the Buddha and chant prayers to pay homage to the Buddha. Inside the temple, there is a museum hall made entirely of golden teak in the Lanna style. Inside, there are many valuable antiques from the northern cities on display, such as Buddha images, lacquerware, Lanna musical instruments, ancient weapons, pictures of northern princes, and images of past events. There is something strange and amazing. Some people say that everything you see here was the work of the abbot, who was only about 30 years old, named Luang Pho Montree, or as the locals call him, Khru Ba Noi. Some people say it is unbelievable. How is it possible that in the past this monk was the son of a farmer in Den Chai District, used to raise cows and buffaloes, and only studied until the 7th grade of primary school, then had to drop out because he wanted to be ordained.
