Qiandao Lake, also known as the Xin'anjiang Reservoir, is located in Chun'an County, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. A small part of it is connected to the northwest of Jiande City, Hangzhou City. It is an artificial lake formed by blocking the upper reaches of the Xin'anjiang River for the construction of the Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station. After the Xin'anjiang Reservoir was built, the dam blocked the upper reaches of the Xin'anjiang River into a huge lake. The towering mountains and steep cliffs were submerged in the lake, forming 1,078 islands of various sizes, hence the name "Thousand Island Lake". There are many ancient towns around Qiandao Lake that are worth visiting. Most of them are surrounded by water on three sides and backed by mountains on one side.
