Located at Tumen Street, Quanzhou, Tonghuai Guan Yue Temple is the largest surviving martial temple in Fujian. Built originally in the Song Dynasty and rebuilt in 1927, it stands today as a proud sanctuary devoted to Guan Yu—with Yue Fei added in 1914, earning it the dual dedication and legendary name: Guan-Yue Temple. The daylight reveals its elegance: a sweeping Minnan-style roof with intricate “swallowtail” ridges and mythical beasts—dragons, phoenixes, lions, and tigers—carved into the architecture, wishing visitors peace and protection. Its wooden frame follows the traditional chuandou construction method, beautifully detailed with stone, wood, and clay carvings.
