Constantine's Arch, 312–315 A.D. Constantine, often known as Constantine the Great, was important for a number of reasons. These include his support for Christianity, his role in changing Roman Empire politics, and his establishment of Constantinople (modern day Istanbul). In the fields of art and architecture, Constantine was regarded as a change-agent.
