⚓🌊 Saint-Malo｜In the pirate city, take a bite of wind and salt

There are too many romantic towns in France, but Saint-Malo, located on the coast of Brittany, has a more rebellious and wild character. This city was once the strongest privateering port in France, full of gold, silver and legends. Today, the city walls are still strong and the sea breeze is still fierce, but there are many more tourists eating crepes and drinking fish soup - including me. 🧭 I walked around the ancient city wall (Les Remparts), watching the tides and the isolated islands. At that moment, I seemed to hear the call of the Age of Exploration. The cobblestone road under the city wall winds into the city. As soon as you walk into the center of the old city, you will see stone houses, galleries and coffee. 🥞 At noon, I ordered the most authentic buckwheat salty crepe (Galette), which is filled with melted cheese, ham and mushrooms. The crust is crispy and the filling is fragrant. Every bite is the soul of Brittany. Then, I had a bowl of hot traditional fish soup (Soupe de Poisson), served with cheese, garlic sauce and toast. It was so salty and fragrant that I almost finished the whole pot by myself. 🦪 The fresh oysters and shrimps in the local fishing port are not to be missed - add a few drops of lemon, the coolness and sea taste in the mouth, as if the waves of Brittany are rolling on the tip of the tongue. 🌅 At low tide in the evening, walk across the causeway to the Grand Bé Island, stand on the beach and look back at the walls of Saint-Malo. The tranquility and ruggedness intertwined in the scenery has become the most profound picture of this journey. --- 📌 Travel Notes & Tips: 🚆 How to get there: * Take the TGV high-speed train from Paris to Rennes (about 1.5 hours), then transfer to a regional train (about 1 hour) to Saint-Malo * The station is about a 20-minute walk to the old town within the city wall 🌊 Tide time: Saint-Malo is a world-renowned tidal area with a large difference in high and low tides.
