#SalzburgFortress (Festung Hohensalzburg), one of the largest medieval castles in Europe, is located in the south of #Salzburg, Austria. This is my favorite attraction during this trip to Austria, along with the Lake District. . The castle was first built in 1077 and was gradually expanded by successive archbishops. A cable car for transporting cargo was built in 1515, which is speculated to be the oldest cable car in the world. . Later, until the early 20th century, it was used as a prison to hold Italian prisoners of war; in the 1930s, it held Nazis. . 🌟 How to play? Walking south from the center of Salzburg, you will first pass through the New Town, cross the river and then enter the Old Town. The Salzburg Fortress stands on the top of the Seeberg. . This time we will use Salzburg as a transportation relay station, rent a car here to tour the lake area, stay for a short time, and focus on the Salzburg Fortress.
