Day 10: San Diego Visiting the "Midway Museum" was my main purpose for coming to San Diego The "yellow hat" guides on the ship were all retired veterans who had served on this aircraft carrier. In 1973, Midway became the first aircraft carrier to be based in the overseas port of Yokosuka, Japan. In August 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait, and Midway participated in her second and final battle. After the battle ended in February of the following year, Midway returned to her home port for rest and then sailed to San Diego, California. She was officially decommissioned in 1992, with a total service of 47 years. It is the longest-serving American warship in the 20th century and the only warship that witnessed the beginning and end of the Cold War. From 1945 to 1992, it was scrapped in Washington State for more than ten years, and finally an aircraft carrier museum was established in San Diego in 2004; another worth mentioning is the Save the Kiss statue, which is made of a black and white photo of a sailor kissing a female nurse in New York Times Square to celebrate when the news of Japan's unconditional surrender came. I booked it from the official website on the same day, received the QR code immediately, and boarded the ship on time at 10 am. I walked around for a whole day until the announcement of the closing time at 4:45 pm. I reluctantly returned the audio guide to the staff and left the ship. Since the Taiwan Navy has not yet equipped an aircraft carrier, it has always been my wish to visit an aircraft carrier in person. Currently, there are only two aircraft carrier museums in the United States. This is one of them, and the other is docked in New York.
