Seville is located on the lower reaches of the Guadalquivir River in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the capital and largest city of the Andalusia Autonomous Region and Seville Province in Spain. As of 2021, Seville has a town population of approximately 685,000 and a metropolitan population of approximately 1.5 million, making it the largest city in Andalucia, the fourth largest city in Spain, and the 26th largest city in the European Union. Its old town covers an area of ​​4 square kilometres and contains three UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alcázar palace complex, the Cathedral and the General Archives of the West Indies. The Port of Seville is about 80 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and is the only river port in Spain. Andalusia’s capital city experiences hot summer temperatures, with daily highs often exceeding 35°C in July and August. In fact, the day I went there was August 22nd. The car showed that the outdoor temperature was as high as 40 degrees. I lost almost all interest in sightseeing. I just took a boat tour near the bullring to visit the Alfonso XIII Canal that runs through the city. This is an artificial waterway that began to be excavated in 1918.
