Xiao Jiao Tian’s First SG Outlet Serves Up Fujian-Inspired Sichuan Comfort Food

#summervacay Xiao Jiao Tian, a popular Sichuan cuisine chain from Fuzhou with over 70 outlets in China, has officially opened its first outlet in Singapore at City Square Mall. What sets them apart is their Fujian Fuzhou-style take on Sichuan food—flavourful yet lighter, with less oil and spice, making it approachable for all ages. Located on the fourth floor of the newly renovated City Square Mall, the restaurant offers a bright and spacious setting, making it a comfortable spot for casual dining. Every dish is cooked fresh to order, and you can really taste the difference in quality and texture. We tried their Chinese Sauerkraut Fish, which came in a tangy, savoury broth packed with tender, thinly sliced fish. The soup was appetising without being too salty or oily, and paired beautifully with their Premium Wuchang Rice, which you can enjoy free-flow with a $3 top-up. Their Sweet & Sour Pork was another standout. Freshly fried to order, the pork was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauce was well-balanced—not overly sweet or cloying—making it a dish that went perfectly with rice. For dessert, we had the Milk Skin Yogurt, a house specialty that’s handmade and slow-fermented for 12 hours. It was silky, creamy, and lightly tangy—a refreshing end to the meal. Since it’s only available in limited quantities each day, it’s definitely something worth trying while it’s available. That $3 self-service top-up is also worth highlighting: it includes unlimited Premium Wuchang Rice, canned Coca-Cola, daily herbal tea or lemon water, snacks, and ice cream. It’s great value and perfect if you’re dining with a group or simply have a big appetite. If you’re looking for Sichuan food that’s flavourful without being overwhelmingly spicy or heavy, Xiao Jiao Tian offers a refreshing and well-executed option. This is not your typical numbing mala experience—instead, it’s a more balanced take that’s still true to its roots. Whether you’re familiar with Sichuan food or trying it for the first time, this spot is definitely worth a visit.
