🔷Day 2 Road Trip Itinerary: After concluding the Melk visit at noon, we headed to Admont to explore a world-famous library in this small town, reputed as the largest monastic library globally. The 130km journey from Melk to Admont offered breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal route for a road trip. In the afternoon, we arrived in Admont and checked into Hotel Spirodom Admont, located just a 10-minute walk from Admont Abbey. Main highlights of Admont: 1. Admont Abbey Founded in 1074, it's one of Central Europe's oldest Benedictine monasteries, featuring a blend of Baroque and Gothic architectural elements. 2. Admont Library The world's largest monastic library stretches 70 meters long, housing approximately 70,000 precious volumes including over 1,400 manuscripts and 530 incunabula. This Baroque masterpiece showcases ceiling frescoes that harmonize Enlightenment ideals with religious themes. Before closing time, we visited the abbey's backyard pond and witnessed a spectacular sunset glow. 🔷Day 3 Road Trip Itinerary: Departing from Admont to Grundlsee (about 70km), we began our Austrian lake district tour. The continuous scenic views along the way felt like moving through a painting. 1. Grundlsee Located in Salzkammergut near Bad Aussee, this 4 sq.km lake at 708m altitude serves as habitat for various fish species. Surrounded by Bergawald snow-capped mountains with emerald-green waters and lush forests, it resembles a paradise. We recommend Seehotel Seeblick Monti here, offering premier western lakeshore views. 2. Bad Aussee Just 5.5km from Grundlsee, you can leisurely explore Bad Aussee town and enjoy afternoon tea at local cafes or restaurants. 3. St. Wolfgang Traveling about 70km (1 hour) from Bad Aussee, we reached Hotel Peter in St. Wolfgang. This family-run traditional hotel sits at the entrance of the town's pedestrian zone right by Wolfgangsee Lake, featuring a scenic terrace with panoramic views of the lake and mountains.
