"Koh Rat", a small island in the middle of the southern sea, the way of life of the sea people, Surat Thani📍

Koh Rat is a small island located about 500 meters from the coast of Ban Laem Luan, Don Sak Subdistrict. There is a concrete bridge connecting to the island. According to the story that has been passed down, this island was originally uninhabited. However, hundreds of years ago, Chinese people immigrated from Hainan Island and stopped to stay on this island. When they saw that it was a suitable island to settle, they settled down and established a small village. Today, 85 percent of the population on the island are Thai-Chinese. The reason why Koh Rat is called this island is because it is named after a local tree on the island called the Khi Raet tree. There are about 90 households on Koh Rat. Most of them work as local fishermen. Some of the houses have been converted into homestays to accommodate tourists. There are many interesting homestays here. If anyone is going to Koh Phangan or Koh Samui and has time to stay overnight and see the local way of life, it would be interesting.
