Tirana Pyramids: a cultural center of the new generation.

Tirana, the capital of Albania, is lively and colorful, beating like the heart of this small country with hopes and dreams. After the 1990s, the city center underwent tremendous changes. Today, the city has been transformed, with all the buildings painted in bright colors and public squares and pedestrian streets for people to stroll. The boulevards are lined with magnificent displays of past relics, with elaborate minarets and high-profile social propaganda murals recalling Tirana's past in the Ottoman, Italian and socialist eras. Although Tirana is noisy, crazy, dusty, and its busy and congested traffic seems to compete with pedestrians every day, it never gets boring. The Tirana Pyramid in 🗺️Tirana transforms an abandoned communist monument into a new cultural 🎨life center in Tirana. MVRDV's renovation retains the concrete shell while making the atrium and surrounding area more open. The village settlement, consisting of cafes, studios, workshops and classrooms, will permeate the entire site. This renovation plan will make the Tirana Pyramid a new cultural activity center in Tirana and a life carrier for the new generation. The project is mainly managed by TUMO Tirana, a non-profit educational institution, which provides free extracurricular education for young people, including new technologies such as software, robotics, animation, music and film. The Tirana Pyramid was originally a museum built in memory of Enver Hoxha. After the Kosovo War, it became a temporary base for NATO and later a nightclub and public event venue. However, the built environment continued to deteriorate, and young people in Tirana used the pyramids as a canvas for graffiti and a gathering place. MVRDV’s design will transform this important heritage building by completely opening up the building and removing previous refurbished additions to reveal the dynamism of the interior spaces. Through this renovation project, the Tirana Pyramid is expected to be reborn and become a new cultural 🎨activity center and educational 🏫 carrier in Tirana. The city's colour and vibrancy will be perfectly reflected in this landmark building
