[Tokyo/Nitta Shrine] The birthplace of hamaya arrows, a shrine with a giant hamaya arrow

The deity worshipped here is Nitta Yoshioki, a military commander from the Northern and Southern Courts period. In the precincts, there is a huge hamaya (exorcism arrow) sculpture that can't be seen anywhere else! At the time, it was made by Hiraga Gennai under the name "Yamori." The arrows were sold in sets of two, and one would be offered at the shrine and the other taken home as a talisman. This is said to be the birthplace of hamaya. Also, to the right after passing through the torii gate is a large zelkova tree that is 700 years old.
