Tung Sri Muang Temple

Phra That Chedi Si Maha Pho, or as Ubon people call it “Phra That Nong Bua”, is located in the heart of the city on Thammathi Road. It was built in 1957 to mark the 25th century of Buddhism. This Phra That Chedi Si Maha Pho is a replica of the Bodh Gaya Chedi in India, the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment. At the base of the chedi, there are four entrances to the center of the chedi. Inside the chedi are the relics of the Buddha, which are enshrined in a gilded stupa in the Pala style of Indian art, carved with the stories of the 500 lives of the Buddha. Behind the chedi is the Ubosot Sala, which is modeled after the Parinirvana Vihara in Kusinarai, Uttar Pradesh, India, where the Buddha passed away. Another highlight is the statue of Chapyaputta, or the Rainbow Naga, which is famous for its beauty and the variety of colors on its body. #NortheasternTeam
