#museums Overseas Chinese Museum Xiamen The Museum of Chinese Emigrants (华侨博物院) is called "the only museum of the history of Chinese emigrants in the world." It is located on Simingnanlu Street in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The building's construction area is more than 3,000 sq. m. It features more than 7,000 exhibits. This museum was created with the support of the famous leader of Chinese emigrants, Mr. Chen Jiageng, at the expense of Chinese emigrants and emigrants who returned to their homeland. In 1956, its construction began, and in May 1959 it officially opened to the public. The museum was chaired and founded by Tang Ka-Ki, a well-known leader of Chinese immigrants, as well as compatriots, living abroad and dealing with the return of Chinese immigrants. The museum is divided into six sections, such as the production and development of Chinese emigrants, the tragedy of Chinese emigrants before liberation, friendship between foreign Chinese and people, the contribution of Chinese emigrants to their homeland, past and present communities of Chinese emigrants, an overview of the policy of Chinese emigrants. It displays a variety of cultural relics, crafts, and samples of Chinese expats donating or contributing many foreign Chinese, embodying the thoughts of the head of Tang Ka-Ki, that people should show respect for scientific and cultural information and effectively use its social consequences. The entire museum has three exhibition halls with an exhibition area of 2,400 square meters, displaying more than 1,200 pieces of photographs and documentation of all kinds, about 2,000 rare cultural monuments, as well as more than 1,000 pieces of samples of various rare birds, animals and aquatic products.
