Zagreb is the largest city in Croatia and serves as the capital of the Republic of Croatia, located in the northern part of the country. It thrives as a hub for transportation and logistics, connecting Eastern Europe with the Adriatic Sea, and the Croatian economy is heavily concentrated in Zagreb. Ban Josip Jelacic Square is considered the heart of Zagreb, situated at the boundary between the new town and the old town. In the 19th century, Ban Josip Jelacic, known as the "fighter for Croatian independence," played a significant role. The square was named after him in 1848, and in 1866, a statue of the governor was installed at the center of the square. Ban Josip Jelacic Square lies to the north, while the Central Station is to the south. Between them are three squares—King Tomislav Square, Strossmayer Square, and Zrinjevac Square—which are essentially connected as one park running north to south.
