Dubai Metro, Tram and Monorail
I had some difficulty getting on, so I'll record it here.
Dubai has the metro, tram, and monorail as public transportation.
Of these, there are three main ways to get on the metro and tram.
① Nol card (similar to Suica in Japan)
② One-day pass
③ One-time ticket (I didn't use this this time, so I'll skip it)
*Also, ① Nol cards are divided into two types, gold and silver. Gold cards are more expensive, but you can ride in the special front car of the metro tram. Conversely, please note that those who are not gold cannot use the front car.
① Nol cards can be purchased at the ticket machine at the station with a credit card or cash.
Select whether you want gold or not, then specify the amount to be charged, and the final payment will be 25% less than the amount to be charged. It costs a lot of AED, but it includes a 6AED issuance fee and a 19AED charge.
Metro → Enter by tapping the card against the ticket gate in the same way as Suica, and exit by tapping the card against the ticket gate.
Tram → Tram stations are unmanned and do not have standard ticket gates, so you need to scan your card into the machine in the station before and after boarding, so be careful until you get used to it.
② One-day passes are purchased at a manned counter, and if you tell the counter that you want a standard one-day pass, they will issue it for you.
The one-day pass allows you to ride the metro and tram as much as you want, and is valid until the last train of the day.
Metro → Enter and exit by tapping the card against the ticket gate in the same way as a nol card.
Tram → Scan the card into the machine in the station in the same way as a nol card, but when I used it, there were many reading errors.
In that case, please try again at another terminal in the station until it says it has been checked. If you ride with the error, you will be treated as a free ride.
Also, the front car of the tram is marked gold, and all other cars are marked silver.
The one-day pass is red, so I wondered if I could ride in the silver car, but it's fine.
When going to Pearl Jumeirah, transfer from metro to tram to monorail.
When transferring from tram to monorail, exit the tram station, enter the nearest multi-storey car park, and walk through the car park. There is no sense of passage, so you may be worried if you are really in the right place, but there is no problem.
The monorail is a separate fee, and you can use it with a charged Nol card or by purchasing a ticket at the counter.
The most expensive ticket is a one-day unlimited ride ticket with no restrictions on getting on and off, but the other tickets are only one-way or round-trip tickets to the designated station.
