The Sea of Marmara is the smallest sea in the world, with an area of approximately 11,350 square kilometers. Geographically, it is located between the Anatolian Peninsula and the Balkan Peninsula in Europe. It is an inland sea formed by the subsidence of the Eurasian continental fault.

Today Neos Marmaras is a popular tourist town and the numerous cafes, restaurants and bars along the seafront are very busy in the summer.
