China and Vietnam share a long border, however the most spectacular part of this must be the Detian Waterfalls in China's Guangxi Province. Around a 3 hours drive eastwards of Nanning, or alternatively south from Baise, it is reached by private car or public bus. To drive here, you can rent a car and drive yourself as the roads are in good condition and not difficult to navigate, or you can hire a driver. For the bus, you can depart from Nanning bus station, although this option is slower. Remember to bring ID or passports for buying tickets and for the frontier border check-even though you're not leaving a country, all vehicles are still inspected. When you arrive, you board the sightseeing bus up the mountain, straddling the river that seperates the two countries, finally arriving at the top and the waterfall scenic area. You walk in a circular direction around the waterfall from the east side, offering spectacular close-up views of the whole valley. There are many observation points for photos or videos here. Arrive here by private car before or after visiting Goose Spring, a 15-mimute drive away. Jiuzhou is located close to the China-Vietnam border region and therefore is a mixture of both cultures., especially the architectural style of some of the buildings here. Taking a relaxed stroll through the small lanes, you can witness local life and culture, from the distinct language dialect, through the the handicrafts that can be bought here. There are several pretty temples and pavilions inside that are framed with the backdrop of the surrounding hills and small lakes. Located around 2 hours drive south of Baise, China's Guangxi province, you will come to one of the most stunning places to visit in a China itself. This is the mountains that run along the China-Vietnam border region and there you will find Goose Spring, hidden away in it's secluded and picturesque wonderland. Only accessible by private car...once you arrive, a short boat ride up to small river is a good way to begin the visit. This is the opportunity to see the local people and take in the unbelievable scenery that now surrounds you on all sides. Then take a walk past the gardens, pools and water wheels and take a leisurely climb up to the viewing platform overlooking the valley below. Here you can take an unforgettable panorama or the scene in front of you. Climb even higher for a walk along the side of the mountain trail. Yesterday on our way to Baise, Jingxi from Nanning, at half way, we stopped by the “Goose Spring”. 🦆 This place is highly recommended ✅, is a beautiful valley within the mountains ⛰️ that is combined with the green 🌳of the nature and yellow of the rice fields 🌾together with a gorgeous pound 💧, making this a very peaceful ☮️ and relaxing 🧘‍♀️🧘 spot 🏞️ To get there probably the best is to rent a car 🚗 or hired a driver, but we also saw some local buses 🚌 , that could bring you there from Nanning city. Getting There - The place is not of easy access, we hired a driver🚗 and came from Nanning by car, it took around 4 hours but including a stop or around 2 hours in another destination where we had the chance to see the spring goose and rice fields. Attractions - just take a boat ⛵️and enjoy a ride of a little over or one hour around the lake surround by beautiful mountains everywhere. The best part is that seems to not be very well know yet, therefore we were the only ones in the boat, it felt like a private tour only for us ! 😎 Hotels - we did not stay here, but seems there are some hotels in the lake, anyway I would recommend to go and sleep somewhere else, probably the driver can suggest some good option. I just came back from "surviving a trial" in Chongzuo, with my skin sunburned three shades darker and my clothes sticky, and I have to warn you!! 💥 The mountains and waters of Chongzuo are as beautiful as a fantasy drama filming location 🌄 but coming in June is really a no-go!! I thought I could check in at the real-life "Wizard of Oz," but instead, I spent the whole time battling high temperatures, crowds, and the rainy season 😫 This post is full of pitfalls, so if you’re planning to go, save this👇 🌞 Scorching heat: melting in minutes! Before leaving, I read that summer in Chongzuo is cool?? Big! Mistake! ❌ June in Chongzuo is basically a "natural oven" 🔥 As soon as I got off the train, I was hit by a 38°C heatwave, and even three layers of sunscreen couldn’t block the UV rays!! I wanted to take beautiful tourist photos at Detian Waterfall 📸 but the sun was so strong I couldn’t open my eyes, and all the shots showed me squinting with a "painful mask" face 😭 Even worse, there were hardly any shaded spots in the scenic area. While drifting on a bamboo raft in Mingshi Tianyuan, it felt like frying fish on a hot plate 🐟 My legs were burned red by the seat when I got off! 🌧️ Rainy season curse: from sunny to drenched in seconds! I thought there wouldn’t be much rain in June, but reality slapped me hard!! 💦 It was bright and sunny when I left ☀️ but as soon as I arrived at Tongling Grand Canyon, dark clouds gathered ⛈️ Before I could even take out my raincoat, a downpour started!! The paths in the canyon became slippery and muddy, turning my sneakers into "mud shoes" 👟 Even worse, the waterfall’s water volume surged, and the planned hiking trail was closed 🚫 I had to awkwardly hide under a shop’s eaves, helplessly watching the rain wash away the beautiful scenery... 🚗 Traffic nightmare: stuck to the point of questioning life! I thought there would be fewer tourists in the off-season, but I was too naive!! 🚗 The road from the city to Detian Waterfall was so jammed it was a nightmare; what should have been a 1-hour drive took 3 hours!! 🫠 The parking lot at the scenic spot was impossible to find a space in, I circled more than ten times before finding a spot!! Even worse, the shuttle bus line was super long, and I waited 40 minutes under the blazing sun, almost getting heatstroke 🥵 Renting a car to drive yourself wasn’t any easier, some mountain roads were full of potholes, making me nervous the whole time! 🍜 Food disappointments: all the popular spots are "traps"! I came for the local specialties but ended up disappointed!! 🥲 The super popular rolled rice noodle shop had a half-hour queue, but the noodles were thick-skinned with little filling, and the taste was worse than the breakfast stall near my home!! 😤 The sour fruit stall looked colorful and tempting, but the fruit wasn’t fresh, and I threw it away after a few bites... The only good thing was the coconut sold by an old lady on the street 🥥 Ice-cold and super refreshing, but at 30 yuan each, my wallet cried directly 😭 💰 Spending traps: money flows like water! I thought a less touristy city would be cheap, but the bill shocked me!! 💸 Detian Waterfall ticket + sightseeing bus is 120 yuan per person, and bamboo rafting costs extra!! The homestays in Mingshi Tianyuan usually cost 200+, but in June they jumped to over 500!! Even a simple stir-fry meal costs over 80 per person, and buying some souvenirs quickly emptied my wallet 😫 Babies!! The mountain and water scenery in Chongzuo is indeed stunning 🌄 but June is really not the best time to travel!! Either choose spring or autumn when the weather is cool and there are fewer people; or come in winter to avoid the rainy season!! 😭 If you don’t want to suffer like me and waste money, take my advice and come at another time!!

We arrived at the scenic area on Friday afternoon around 4:00 PM. There weren’t many people, and the area seemed relatively small—or perhaps we didn’t explore the entire place. The main attraction here is the scenery, and you can also learn about the story and origins of Goose Spring. Climbing up the side stairs offers a panoramic view of the entire scenic area, which is highly recommended. It’s unclear whether it was due to it being a weekday or the late hour, but the food stalls were not open. We spent about an hour and a half in the park before leaving to find food elsewhere.

Tongling Grand Canyon features mountains, water, and caves. The trail includes numerous stairs, and the path can be slippery, so you need to walk carefully. Along the way, colorful lights illuminate the rocks, perhaps to catch your attention—and they certainly caught mine! 😂 As you venture deeper, you'll encounter a crystal-clear stream. On a scorching day like the Dragon Boat Festival, stepping into the cool water feels like pure salvation. Continuing forward, you'll reach Tongling Waterfall. No matter the angle, the view is absolutely breathtaking. With a drop of 188 meters, this grand waterfall is far more impressive in person than in photos. After admiring the waterfall, we slowly made our way toward the exit. Midway, we noticed a shuttle bus for the return trip, priced at CNY10 per person. We couldn't resist and hopped on. Later, we realized that the return route follows the roadside, which is relatively plain in terms of scenery. Plus, the sun was blazing. If you're feeling a bit tired, I highly recommend taking the shuttle.
