Mountain climbing in the Spanish suburbs - Montserrat, a jagged rock mountain
#mountain climbing #100 ways to travel
When traveling to Spain, you have to climb mountains! And it's not an ordinary mountain, but #MonserratMount Montserrat, also known as the #Sawtooth Mountain. It is located in the northern suburbs of Barcelona. First take a train to the cable car station at the foot of the mountain (about 1 hour), and then transfer to the cable car or cog train to #MonserratMonastery Abadia de Montserrat. The majestic stone stands right in front of you, which is super shocking!
#Monserrate Monastery is a very interesting monastery. It has the legendary Black-faced Madonna and a young poetry group. Because the monastery rises from the steep terrain, it has an excellent view. There is not only something to see, some to rest, but also a restaurant.
After visiting the monastery, you can go to several hiking trails, because Montserrat is a sandstone mountain with a unique landform, with strange rocks and cliffs. The jagged mountains left by river erosion, deep canyons, and bizarre rock peaks and pillars, as well as dense forests, create Montserrat's unique scenery.
For general tourists, it is recommended to walk to #圣麦奎尔十字Sant Miquel, which is a cross observation deck standing on a cliff. You can have a complete overlook of the entire Monserrate Peak, the monastery, and the cable car. It is quite shocking! One cannot help but admire the wonders of nature, and be sure to come and take pictures.

[To the Monastery in the Sky] A trip to a power spot with spectacular views and healing at Montserrat ✨
"Montserrat" on the outskirts of Barcelona is a spectacular spot with a mysterious mountain with a series of strange rocks and a monastery at its peak ⛰️
The view from the summit, about 1,200m above sea level, is truly spectacular! The air was clear, and I felt like my mind and body were being reset.
At the monastery, the sight of people praying to the "Black Madonna" is impressive. The best part of this trip is being able to spend time facing yourself in a quiet space ✨
It is about an hour by train from Barcelona city. From Montserrat Station, take the mountain railway or ropeway to the top of the mountain. Both offer spectacular views, so we recommend them 🚠
🎯 Tips: If you leave early in the morning, you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the quiet monastery. On the way back, you can also use the hiking trail to descend the mountain ◎. Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes and shoes! Perfect for solo travelers, couples, and anyone looking for nature and healing. Montserrat is definitely recommended for short trips from Barcelona ✨

Mystical Peaks and Soulful Views: A Day at Montserrat 🇪🇸
#europeonbudget
Montserrat felt like stepping into another world—jagged mountain peaks, crisp air, and a spiritual calm that lingers. The cable car ride up offered jaw-dropping views, and the Benedictine monastery nestled among the cliffs was both peaceful and awe-inspiring. Hearing the boys’ choir inside the basilica gave us chills.
Hiking trails led to scenic lookouts that made the effort worthwhile. It’s the perfect escape from Barcelona’s bustle, blending nature, history, and spirituality. We left feeling refreshed and inspired. Montserrat isn’t just a day trip—it’s a powerful experience for the soul and senses. Bring good shoes and an open heart.
My rating: 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5!

Barcelona and Catalonia's Sacred Mountain
A Mediterranean Coastal Journey in Spain ~ Barcelona (Region)
In the heart of Catalonia lies a uniquely shaped mountain composed of massive gray rock slabs. At the summit of this spectacular hill stands the statue of Our Lady of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia. This natural reserve, covered with pine and holm oak forests, is home to animals such as squirrels, wild boars, and deer. Various tours and itineraries are available to help you uncover its most hidden gems.
At the mountain's peak, you'll find the majestic sanctuary dedicated to the 12th-century Romanesque statue of the Virgin Mary, "La Morenata." The site features multiple plazas and a cathedral originally built in the 16th century and later reconstructed in the 19th century. It also includes accommodations for pilgrims and visitors. Nearby is a Benedictine monastery with a beautiful chapel, a Neo-Romanesque cloister, and a restaurant, renovated in 1925 by architect Puig i Cadafalch. The area also houses works by renowned artists such as Picasso, Dalí, and El Greco.
Additionally, visitors can explore the newly opened audiovisual space and open-air museum. With the help of audio guides, you can admire modernist sculptures and visit the Chapel of Sant Cova, a small church built into the rock where the Virgin's statue is said to have been discovered.

Spain Montserrat - Most beautiful hike that you can never miss 🥺
every single moment on this hike up was astonishing and unreal. the view was just so breathtaking that no amount of pictures could record what i felt when i took in the view.
You just have to see and feel it for yourself!
When i was at the top, it just felt like we are so small compared to the world we are in. Standing 1.2km above the ground, we couldn’t see much of the details, yet we could see so far and so much. Made me felt so appreciative of the world we are in, the beauty of it, how much the world has provided for us and how much more we could see if we explored further.
Wasn’t a difficult hike up, but definitely one of the most rewarding ones ❤️

A Must-Visit Mountain Town in Barcelona: Montserrat Monastery Tour
When you visit Europe, you must explore the charming mountain towns! Just an hour's drive from Barcelona, Montserrat Mountain is famous for its unique jagged rocks. You can easily reach it by train from the city center, making the trip very convenient. The main purpose of this visit is to enjoy the mountain scenery and the monastery.
Upon arrival at the foot of the mountain, you can take a cable car directly to the top. The cable car ride is very steep, but the breathtaking scenery along the way, surrounded by mountains, is truly worth it. Once at the top, follow the path to reach Montserrat Monastery. This monastery houses the Black Madonna statue, which is said to have miraculous healing powers, attracting countless pilgrims. However, the queue to worship is very long, so we chose to stay for a while and admire the exquisite interior decorations of the church. The unique chandelier designs and intricate carvings inside the church are something I personally enjoyed very much.
Tips
/ It is recommended to allocate half a day to Montserrat Mountain to easily enjoy the beautiful scenery and culture here.
/ For those who want to experience hiking, you can also set aside more time to explore the surrounding trails.

A must visit spot just an hour away from Barcelona!
Definitely a must visit spot when visiting Barcelona.
The view was amazing, unique, sawtooth mountain. This place is very easy to reach from the city, Monserrat is just an hour train ride from Barcelona.
Board the train from Placa espana and stop at aeri de montserrat station. Take the cable car or the furnicular to reach the mountain. Had the great view while riding the cable car to the top.
A day trip or half day trip is enough to Monserrat truly a beautiful place to visit. #barcelona#cataluña #spain

The Monastery’s entrance

The archway at Montserrat is part of the monastery's entrance and is often considered a symbolic feature of the site, giving it a grand, welcoming feel. This historic arch is part of the architectural beauty of the monastery and plays a role in its overall design. The archway is a nice place to take pictures, you will get to see a lot of visitors walk around this area and take pictures. Besides that, you can visit the Basilica of Montserrat and the Cloisters.

Montserrat
If you visit Barcelona, don't forget to dedicate one day to see Montserrat and set off early. Easy DIY for me, but I went out late for my travel to the this sanctuary. Could've savor the place more coz sitting and just watching the place and the mountains if just relaxing. I went in December so it's a bit windy and cold, but tolerable at 15-20 degrees. Overall, I loved it. ❤️🥹 #jelaitravels

The reason I went to Montserrat near Barcelona was to visit a monastery in the mountains at 1200m above sea level. After hearing the voices of the boys' choir in the cathedral and seeing the Black Madonna statue, I went out to see the surrounding scenery. Since it is in the mountains, the view is great wherever you go.
