Starting from Kochi Station, I took a train and then transferred to a bus, spending over two hours to finally arrive at Nakasue Valley. This marked the beginning of my quest to witness the famous "Niyodo Blue"—a term coined by a photographer to describe the crystal-clear blue-green waters of the Niyodo River. Following the park's walking trails, I passed through caves, climbed over rocks, and crossed stone bridges. If you're worried about the difficulty of the path, rest assured—it’s quite manageable, with wooden walkways and steps provided. Along the way, you'll encounter cascading waterfalls, towering stone pillars as tall as two stories, moss-covered deadwood and rocks, and large boulders resting in the stream. The scenery is breathtaking. Listening to the gentle sound of flowing water while gazing at the pristine stream is truly refreshing. The allure of Niyodo Blue is captivating. If you have ample time, join me in exploring Nakasue Valley. Nature lovers will not be disappointed. Helpful Tips: 1. The stream looks even more stunning under sunlight, so it’s best to start your journey in the morning. 2. From Kochi Station, take the JR train to Sakawa Station, then board the Kuroiwa Sightseeing Bus heading to "Kawado." Get off at "Naganokawa" Station, cross the road, and walk along the sloped driveway to reach the valley entrance. 3. Buses may occasionally stop running or skip certain stops during specific times. It’s highly recommended to visit the tourist center (there’s a large one right next to Kochi Station) to inquire about transportation routes and bus schedules in advance.

"Hyotan Sakura Park" An old cherry tree that is about 500 years old, 21 meters tall, and 6 meters around the base, and is designated as a natural monument of the prefecture. Its scientific name is Edohigan, but the lower part of the flower's calyx tube swells into a spherical shape, and when viewed from the side, it is called Hyotan Sakura. The road from Osaki to Hyotan Sakura is 3.5 kilometers. The best time to see it is usually from late March to early April. It gets very crowded during the season, so please come with plenty of time. 📍BLUE BREW Craft Beer Brewery & Taproom A craft beer brewery has opened in the Niyodo River basin. It is located in what is probably the most remote area for a beer brewery in Japan, and the beer makers are a married couple who immigrated from the United States. The person who set up the brewery and brews the craft beer is Kenneth Mukai. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and recently moved to Niyodogawa Town with his wife Masako. Niyodogawa Town, where "BLUE BREW" is located, is the prefecture's leading tea producing area. With a commitment to incorporating the bounty of Kochi Prefecture into craft beer, they have developed a beer using tea, and offer 12 types of craft beer. They also have beers using sweet potatoes, ginger, and Japanese pepper, making use of the region's proud agricultural products. 📍Mt. Nakatsu Myojin Elevation 1541m. Rising up on the border between Ehime and Kochi Prefectures, Mt. Nakatsu Myojin has no other mountains nearby, and if the weather is good, you can see all the way from Tosa Bay to the Seto Inland Sea. In 2012, a 12km trekking course was developed from Nakatsuyama to Karaike to Mizu no Toge. The summit is also the fourth takeoff point of Agawa Sky Park. If the weather is good, it is also ideal for astronomical observations such as the Perseid meteor shower. The Perseid meteor shower is a meteor shower that appears with the radiant point near the star Gamma Perseus. It appears from around July 20th to August 20th, and reaches its peak around August 13th.
