2025 Paifang Street/Chaozhou Ancient City/Guangji Bridge Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in June)

Since we arrived at Chaoshan Station at 2:30 PM, we started our first itinerary around 4 PM after checking in at the homestay. Day 1 Stroll around Chaozhou Ancient City ➠ Paifang Street ➠ Guangji Tower ➠ Guangji Bridge (There is a light show at 8:00 PM, but it was a bit disappointing) 🍴Food: Xia Shuimen Lao Zheng Oyster Omelette, Chao San Yi Snacks, Ancient City Old House Beef Hotpot (Highly recommended!!) Day 2 Chaozhou West Lake ➠ Xima Road ➠ Silver Street ➠ Kaiyuan Temple 🍴Food: Guanchao Tower (Morning Tea), Fresh Feast Chaozhou Private Cuisine (Highly recommended!!) There are many local snacks along Xima Road, and you can buy souvenirs, most of which offer free samples! The elders will not return empty-handed. Brief explanation of transportation It takes about 2.5 hours (direct) from Hong Kong West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Station to Chaoshan Station, and about 40 minutes by ride-hailing from the station to the city! It is recommended to use a mobile phone to book a ride, and do not easily take black cars that solicit passengers on the road.

Loved the Guangji Bridge—strolling its creaky, centuries-old planks at sunset was pure magic. And Paifang Street? Think glow-up night market with epic stone arches and street snacks (try the luo bu bing 🍢). Also amazed by Chaozhou’s tea culture! Spent hours sipping tiny cups of oolong in a teahouse while watching guzheng performance, fully zen. Perfect mix of history, eats, and chill. 🏮🍵

Hotel review I stayed in Chaozhou Old Town, Guangdong Pros - The hotel is in a very good location, right on the Paifang street. There are so many places to eat. You can walk to all the tourist attractions. - Inexpensive, with a private bathroom and shower. - Free drinking water throughout the stay. - New and very clean accommodation. Cons - The starting room is quite small, and there is no place to put a large suitcase. - Since it is on a pedestrian street, the car cannot take you to the hotel. The inn is very convenient for shopping and eating in the archway city. It is very close to Guangji Bridge and Kaiyuan Temple. The landlord is very friendly and the arrangements are very appropriate. One of the most distinctive attractions in Chaozhou is the Guangji Tower and Guangji Bridge. The bridge will be opened at 5 o'clock every day to allow large ships to pass through. In addition, there will be a light show at 8 o'clock in the evening. There are also many shops and delicacies on Paifang Street nearby. It is one of the must-see attractions for tourists.

I missed it yesterday and wanted to make up for it when I passed by today, but the wind and waves were too strong today, exceeding the safety standard, so the bridge could not be connected. The missed scenery always appears more beautiful in regret.
