A medieval castle, Castillo Palacio de Peñíscola, stands on a rocky cape in the Mediterranean Sea. Next to it are rows of white houses built on the hillside. Under the blue sky, it feels like you have arrived in Greece, with a sunny and beautiful day. The American TV series "Game of Thrones" was filmed here, and many pilgrims flocked to this quiet town. The main attraction of Peñíscola is the medieval castle Castell de Peníscola, also known as the Castle of the Moon, where a pope once retired after a power struggle. From the castle, you can enjoy the beautiful bay scenery. The entrance fee is €5. Taking a slow walk around the streets is also a way to experience the history of Peñíscola. Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) This is another beach in town that is less crowded than its namesake to the north. The beach is formed by the wall that forms a breakwater. The sea is calm and the beach is very wide, the sand is fine and golden, and it has complete facilities, making it very suitable for families and children. There are many restaurants around the beach, where you can taste fresh fish from the area. The bar prices were ok, €4.20 for a cold coffee and €4.50 for a beer. Unfortunately the toilet was dirty. There is a civilian menu on the main street, chips and a drink for €6.50. This is one of my favorite places. #February2025 #SpainTravel #Valencia

Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) We had no idea this museum existed until we were told about it at the hotel we were staying at, the truth is I was wise to go. The guided tour was very entertaining and included some magic tricks (lasted about three quarters of an hour). There are posters from magic shows of the 20th century, replicas of the works or tools of the great magicians of history, who explain to you a lot about their lives. In our case the visit was conducted by Borja who was very nice and funny. After we finished, we bought a game at the store. Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) The Maritime Museum (officially Museu de la Mar in Valencia) is a municipal maritime museum located in the Castellón town of Peñíscola. The museum is located in an old building in Baluarte del Príncipe. The museum's collection includes photographs, old drawings and prints, as well as various technical equipment and three aquariums with marine species. The museum is free. Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) The Shell House in Peniscola, built in 1961, is a beautiful love story about a poor fisherman who wanted to make his beloved feel his love for her and, unable to give her a mansion, he prepared decorations in his humble house to make her feel like a queen with the most beautiful house in Peniscola. He did just that by collecting seashells and gradually sticking them on the front of his house. Spending years collecting and pasting shells, his creativity is reflected in the unique mosaics that cover his walls, doors and windows. It is built with carved stone walls. Most rooms have barrel vaults. It is a sober and solid building. It was the residence of Benedict XIII, who transformed it into a palace and papal library when he moved to Peniscola in 1411. The castle sits on a large ridge overlooking the sea, offering a glimpse into its past, when knights and battlemented fortresses occupied the lands of El Maestragor. Pope Benedict XIII, known as the "Luna Pope", chose this place as his retreat and launched the struggle for the unity of the Catholic Church. The fort stands at the highest point of the peninsula. The Parade Ground is a pleasant balcony overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and its castle is the ideal spot to enjoy panoramic views of the coastline. In spring and summer, this walled enclosure hosts the Spanish Comic Strip Film Festival and the Ancient and Baroque Music Festival. But this gem of a small peninsula heritage and historic district site is only part of the town today. Outside the defensive walls there are many restaurants, apartments and residential areas, testifying to the reputation of this fashionable beach location as a tourist destination. On the way to Barcelona Icon, we passed the towns of Peniscola and Sitges. There is a large archway in Peniscola, which is said to be the filming location of Game of Thrones. The sea and sky are one color. The church in Sitges is close to the sea. The Mediterranean coast of Icon is a romantic style of white and blue.

Peñiscola is a must see in Spain. Often called the “Gibraltar of Valencia”, Peñiscola was declared to be a Historic Conservation Area. Visit local shops, the castle on top of the hill, have a seafood paella lunch! #spain
