[2025 Taipei Attraction] Travel Guide for 2-28 Memorial Museum (Updated Jul)

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 In many counties, cities and towns in Taiwan, there is a park built or renamed to commemorate the 228 Incident, named 228 Peace Park or Memorial Park. Today, I took advantage of the Qingming Festival holiday to bring my children to 228 Peace Park to stroll around and visit the Taiwan History Museum exhibition in the park. The park is not very large and is surrounded by public buildings such as the National Taiwan University Hospital, Taipei Guest House, and the Presidential Palace. In addition to the historical museum in the park, there are also the Huang Family Chastity Arch and the Public Welfare Arch, both third-level historic sites, and the Broadcasting Pavilion, a municipal historic site. There is also a monument designed to commemorate the 228 Incident, all of which are not to be missed attractions in the park. In addition, there is a pavilion in the park called "Cuiheng Pavilion" in memory of the founding father Sun Yat-sen, and four pavilions in the four corners, namely "Damu Pavilion" in memory of Zheng Chenggong, "Daqian Pavilion" by Liu Mingchuan, "Canghai Pavilion" by Qiu Fengjia, and "Jianhua Pavilion" by Lian Yatang, who made contributions to Taiwan. However, the pavilion was occupied by the belongings of some homeless people and the environment was a bit dirty and messy. There happened to be a group holding an event in the park that day, which of course was related to politics. The dead are gone, but the future can be pursued. We hope that future generations can remember this historical lesson and not let such regrets happen again. If you are in Taipei and you want to check out the museums you need to check out the 228 peace park while you are there, it’s beautiful and it Is free! The National Museum Of Taiwan and the Natural History museum are bases at this park, along with the peace memorial museum - all three can be visited in the same day. The park also has a lot of sculptures, modern art and of course the national peace memorial itself - giving the park it’s name. There are also some pagodas, locomotive engines and an old Japanese Radio tower - left over from the war. All of these little elements give the park such a quirky atmosphere, everywhere you look it’s completely different - there really is something for everyone. I got there for about 7:30 grabbed a coffee and wandered around waiting for the museums to open at 9AM! Get off the metro at Taipei University Hospital station and follow the signs! The lush greenery and tranquil environment here made me feel relaxed. Strolling along the trails, I admired various plants and beautiful lakes. Next, I visited the Taipei Botanical Garden, which boasts a rich variety of plants and tropical flowers, immersing me in the beauty of nature. After lunch, I went to the Taipei Expo Park, where the floral displays and artistic installations captivated me, making it a perfect spot for photography. On the second day, I visited the 228 Peace Memorial Park. The historical background of this park gave me a deeper understanding of history. Then, I headed to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to admire the magnificent architecture and surrounding gardens. Finally, I arrived at the Taipei Water Park, where the serene environment felt like a hidden oasis in the bustling city. This trip allowed me to find moments of tranquility amidst the busy urban life. Looking forward to my next journey!

The archway, originally built in 1888 on Hengyang Road, was a four-column, three-section structure. It was dismantled and relocated to the park in 1905 to widen the road. Huang's Chastity and Filial Piety Archway (Images 3-5): This archway was erected to honor Huang, the wife of Wang Jialin from Mengjia, for her chastity and filial piety.
