ATLANTIC NYONYA – The Authentic Taste of Nyonya Cuisine in Malacca
One of the things I was most excited to try during my trip to Malacca was Nyonya cuisine. Known for its rich use of spices and unique umami flavor, Peranakan food has always intrigued me. Based on local recommendations, I decided to visit ATLANTIC NYONYA.
First Impressions – A Blend of Tradition and Modernity
As soon as I entered the restaurant, I felt a warm atmosphere. The interior maintained a traditional Peranakan style while also having a sophisticated feel. The walls were adorned with Peranakan patterns, and the soft music playing in the background made the dining experience even cozier.
Choosing the Menu – What to Eat?
I had a hard time deciding what to order, but I went with the recommended signature dishes.
• Ayam Rendang
A slow-cooked chicken dish with spices, it had a tender and moist texture that was impressive. The deep flavor of coconut milk added a rich umami taste with every bite.
• Sambal Petai Sotong Udang
A spicy sambal sauce dish with squid, shrimp, and the distinctively flavored petai beans. The slightly bitter taste of petai blended well with the sambal sauce, creating an intriguing harmony.
• Udang Lemak Nanas
A shrimp dish cooked with coconut milk and pineapple, the sweet and creamy sauce paired perfectly with the fresh shrimp. The balance of sweet and savory was spot on, making it very satisfying.
Taste and Atmosphere – A Place Worth Revisiting
From the moment the food arrived, the strong aroma heightened my anticipation. Each bite was full of deep flavors, and the rendang, in particular, left a lasting impression with its tender and rich taste. The staff were friendly and the service was excellent, adding to the overall satisfaction.
However, some dishes felt a bit salty to my taste, but it's worth noting that traditional Nyonya cuisine tends to be on the saltier side.
Overall – A Must-Visit in Malacca
If you want to experience authentic Nyonya cuisine in Malacca, I highly recommend ATLANTIC NYONYA HQ. The atmosphere, taste, and service were all impeccable. Just keep in mind that reservations are essential during dinner time due to the high number of patrons. I would definitely visit again the next time I'm in Malacca!
