We loved Baba Kaya so much that we went back two mornings in a row! The food was delicious, beautifully presented (very Instagram-worthy), and the ambience by the river made it extra relaxing. Tip: Go early! By around 10:30 AM, it can get quite hot under the sun. Restaurant Baba Kaya is an amazing little cafe offering a range of local Malaysian dishes. It's located in the city of Melaka by the riverside. One of the special things about this restaurant is the way to order the traditional Malaysian dessert, peanut pancake, which we call apam balik. Customers can put money in a nyonya basket outside the restaurant, which is then pulled up with a rope. After that, the apam balik will be placed into the basket and lowered down to the customer." The next must try food is the traditional Malaysian breakfast set – toast bread with a half-boiled egg. They serve Kaya jam in three different colors, which is one of the signatures on their menu, but to me, the taste is not much different from normal Kaya. You can pay a visit to their restaurant. #malaysiatrip We had breakfast at this cafe which is next to the river. The Nyonya Laksa was good and also has a vegetarian option. The unique experience here is to purchase the pancake by using a basket that is lifted to the second floor window. Place money in the basket and it is lifted up. The staff then fill the basket with pancake and lower the basket. This is a unique experience of old traditions. Staff were friendly and the cafe music was great.

This cafe/restaurant is located right on the river with seating options outside, inside with doors open or in the cozy upstairs balcony. The view is picturesque and place itself is quirky and fun with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore. Murals, fun slogans, and even a little cafe scene built into the wall, you’ll have a great time exploring. The menu is great with a wide variety of items, including vegetarian options (as seen in photo). This is a great place to sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a tasty lunch. The staff could not be more friendly and the service was great. I will definitely return. Lunch price was very reasonable considering the location and views.
