Avoid the crowds and travel in reverse in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai - Shangyu, Shaoxing
The name Shangyu comes from Yu Shun. According to Taikang Geographical Records: "Shun fled to this place to avoid Danzhu, so the county was named after it. All officials followed him, so there is a Baiguan Bridge in the north of the county. It is also said that Shun met with the princes and entertained them, so it was called Shangyu (Yu is the same as Yu)."
Shangyu was originally an independent city, but has now been incorporated into Shaoxing City and become a subordinate district. Although Shangyu is not as famous as the surrounding cities, there are many fun places there. However, the scenic spots in Shangyu are relatively scattered, so it will take three or four days to visit them all. This article will talk about the three main attractions of Cao'e River Scenic Resort in Shangyu City. These three attractions are adjacent to each other and can be visited at the same time.
📍①Chinese Filial Piety Garden
🆓Open, no appointment required, opening hours are 08:30-16:30.
The Chinese Filial Piety Garden is located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain in the southwest of Shangyu City and is the core area of the Cao'e River Provincial Scenic Area. The scenic spot is themed on "filial piety culture" and is based on the ancient sage Yu Shun, whose "filial piety moved heaven", and the filial daughter Cao E of the Eastern Han Dynasty who "jumped into the river to save her father". Through the excavation of Yu Shun culture, filial piety culture, Buddhist culture and folk culture, it focuses on displaying Shangyu's long cultural history, and inherits and promotes the spirit of filial piety that has inspired the Chinese nation to keep moving forward for thousands of years. The scenic area was designed by the famous ancient architecture master Mr. Zhu Guangya, and mainly includes the Dashun Temple, Yu Shun Ancestral Hall, Prajna Temple, Jixiang Pavilion, China Filial Piety Museum and other buildings. It echoes the "Elephant Ploughing and Bird Weeding" sculpture group created by art master Mr. Han Meilin. With the concept of "the great elephant is invisible", it strives to be simple, heavy and majestic, fully reflecting the filial piety of Yu Shun.
🗿Among them, the Shun Geng group sculpture is definitely worth seeing. The sculpture is based on the story of "elephants ploughing and birds weeding" and was created by Mr. Han Meilin, a famous Chinese art master. It is the largest urban group sculpture in my country. The entire sculpture group consists of 15 stone elephants, with a total length of 68 meters and a height of 27 meters. It is carved from sesame white granite. Emperor Shun stands on the elephants, holding the plow with his left hand and holding up the sun, moon and stars with his right hand, looking majestic.
📍②Zhongxin Art Museum
🆓Open, no appointment required, opening hours are 08:30-16:30. Please note that 11:30-12:30 is lunch time and the museum is closed.
This museum is definitely a niche tourist destination. Compared to a museum, it is more like a private garden in the south of the Yangtze River. The storefront is not big, but there is a whole new world behind you. There is also a pond with various colored koi.
The museum displays Yue kiln porcelain and Ming and Qing furniture. There are not many exhibits but the overall appearance is exquisite.
📍③Shangyu Museum
Free of charge does not include free tickets. You can make an appointment in advance through the official 👸🏻 number to visit the museum. Opening hours: 09:00 -17:00 (16:30 in winter)
Turn left at the entrance and there is a password locker. Turn right to the service desk where you can pick up a guide book. If you like stamping, you can get a stamp collection card here. The stamps are scattered in the corners of the exhibition halls on the upper and lower floors, so you need to look carefully.
The museum is not very big and it takes about one to two hours to visit it carefully. After the visit, you can have a good understanding of the historical development of Shangyu. The museum's permanent exhibition themes are:
Yu Shao Qianqiu-Shangyu Historical and Cultural Exhibition
Craftsmanship - Shangyu Architecture Exhibition
Ink on stone, leaving a heavenly fragrance - Tianxiang Tower stele exhibition
Porcelain Country · Searching for Roots-Shangyu Yue Kiln Celadon Special Exhibition
Transportation: It is recommended to drive to Shangyu District. If you are going by high-speed rail, it is recommended to buy a ticket to Shaoxing East Station, as the supporting public transportation at Shangyu South Station has not been fully developed.
In addition, Ningbo, Yuyao and Hangzhou all have intercity trains to Shangyu Intercity Station. This station is closest to the three attractions mentioned in the article, and the bus ride takes about 20 minutes.
