Chioggia – The Venetian Secret Without the Crowds

#attractive #localguides
Just an hour south of Venice, Chioggia is a hidden jewel of the Venetian Lagoon—often called “Little Venice”, but with a charm entirely its own. This working fishing town offers the beauty of canals, bridges, and colorful houses—minus the tourist traffic.
Stroll along the main canal, Corso del Popolo, lined with seafood restaurants, open-air markets, and local life on full display. Fishing boats bob in the water as fishermen mend their nets—this isn’t a staged experience; it’s real Italy, lived daily. The lively fish market, one of the oldest in the country, is a feast for the senses and a must-see for food lovers.
Chioggia also boasts quiet charm: admire the 17th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, climb the clock tower (one of the oldest in Italy), or take a sunset walk along the beach at nearby Sottomarina, Chioggia’s seaside district.
Perfect for a peaceful day trip or an offbeat weekend getaway, Chioggia captures the soul of the Venetian lagoon—with color, character, and authenticity.

Unlock the Low-Cost Version of Venice | Hidden Gems Around Milan
| Hidden Gems Around Milan. This August has been quite busy! I promised my two sisters that we would go to the beach again before the end of the summer vacation. Their requirement was that it should be close to Milan and have a sandy beach. In July, we went to the south of France, but my sisters didn't enjoy the pebble beach and didn't have much fun.
So, I looked at the northern and southern coastlines near Milan on Google Maps to find a sandy beach and finally settled on Chioggia. This city is a complete mini version of Venice, and it even has a mini version of the Rialto Bridge 😆.
At dusk, we stumbled upon a seafood snack bar called Bacato fryto, where many people were queuing. It was the first time we tried various fish-filled pastries. Except for the mussel soup, which was quite ordinary, everything else was super delicious and didn't disappoint. We still miss it 😋.
The nearby beach has very fine sand, which the kids loved. They could finally build sandcastles. Moreover, the water is shallow, even up to about 50 meters deep, making it very child-friendly. The downside is that it's near a lagoon and many river mouths, so the water is greenish with lots of seaweed and reeds, not very clear and clean.
However, for a spontaneous weekend short trip, it deserves a score of 90 😝.
Come here and experience the charm of the low-cost version of Venice! 💖
