🇦🇱 Tirana Travel Guide: Top Places to Visit & What to Eat

🏛️ Must-See Attractions in Tirana
* Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral A striking modern church in the city center.
* Skanderbeg Square The heart of Tirana, surrounded by historical buildings and the statue of national hero Skanderbeg.
* National History Museum Located in Skanderbeg Square, featuring a giant mosaic on its façade and exhibits from Albania’s history.
* Bunk’Art 2 A Cold War-era nuclear bunker turned into a museum about Albania's Communist past. Fascinating and eerie. (There’s another Bunk’Art museum near Mount Dajti — more on that below.)
* Tirana Pyramid Once a museum to dictator Enver Hoxha, now a modern cultural hub and popular photo spot.
* Air Albania Stadium Home to Albania’s national football team. You can grab a drink at the rooftop café with stadium views.
* Selman Stërmasi Stadium Home ground of one of the local teams; a fun stop for football fans.
* Tirana Grand Park A large, relaxing park surrounding an artificial lake — great for a walk, picnic, or bike ride.
🚠 Mount Dajti & Bunk’Art 1 Take a scenic cable car ride to Mount Dajti. Buses to the cable car base leave from near Skanderbeg Square.
* At the top: enjoy great views, dine at the panoramic restaurant, or play mini golf (buy a combo ticket if you want to play).
* Nearby is Bunk’Art 1, another massive underground bunker museum — a must-see if you have the time.
🍽️ Where to Eat in Tirana
* Restorant Tymi One of the best spots from my Balkan tour. Tasty and affordable local dishes — try the meatballs!
* Bar Ufo Known for its trileçe (milk cake). Worth a try, but not outstanding.
Note: Despite the name, Albanian Liver (Arnavut Ciğeri) isn’t from Albania. I asked around but no one was familiar with it — turns out it was made popular in Turkey by Albanian immigrants.
📍Extra Tip If you have time to explore beyond Tirana, consider visiting Vlora (Avlonya) or Ksamil for stunning beaches and coastal scenery.

Dajti - Escape to Nature
#springwander
Looking to escape the city buzz of Tirana? The Dajti Ekspres is the perfect getaway. Just a short drive from the center, this cable car (the longest in the Balkans) whisks you up Mount Dajti in about 15 minutes, offering panoramic views over Tirana and the surrounding countryside. The ride itself is peaceful, gliding above forests and hills, with each moment revealing more of Albania's natural beauty.
At the top, you’ll find a restaurant with a rotating platform, hiking trails, and even mini golf. It’s a great spot for a relaxed half-day trip – whether you’re looking to walk through nature, take in the views, or enjoy a quiet lunch with the city far below. On a clear day, you can even spot the Adriatic Sea in the distance.
Tip: Go in the morning for the best visibility and avoid weekend crowds. It's a refreshing contrast to the bustle of Tirana and a reminder of how close nature is in Albania.
