A Must-Visit Spot in Dalian: Dongfang Shuicheng
A must-visit spot in Dalian: Siding's sea urchin dumplings, a stunning ocean view, and the beautiful artificial canal all in one place—Dongfang Shuicheng.
If you're planning a trip to Dalian, you've probably heard of Siding, the famous sea urchin dumpling restaurant. Siding has two locations, and after giving up on the overwhelming wait of over 300 people at the Xinghai Square branch, we decided to try an early visit to the Dongfang Shuicheng branch the next morning.
Pro tip for beating the wait 💡: Although the restaurant officially opens at 10 AM, we arrived around 9:30 AM and found the doors already open with waiting numbers being distributed. We got number 5 and were told to return by 10:30 AM, which gave us enough time to explore the surroundings.
Near Siding, there's a harbor with yachts docked, and you can even enjoy activities like boat rides. On the opposite side, you'll find a canal lined with charming cafes and restaurants that give off a European vibe. It's a perfect spot for taking beautiful photos.
Dongfang Shuicheng is filled with delightful places to explore, including shops selling cute and unique items. Although the prices are a bit high, I managed to snag a lovely souvenir magnet before heading to a cafe.
Cafe recommendation in Dongfang Shuicheng ☕️: Good Beans
While Dongfang Shuicheng has many beautiful cafes, as a coffee lover, I prioritize places that specialize in coffee. Good Beans stood out not only for its excellent coffee but also for its ambiance, interior design, and top-notch service.
Restaurant recommendation in Dongfang Shuicheng 🥟: Siding
After exploring Dongfang Shuicheng, we arrived slightly late for our reserved time, but showing our number ticket allowed us to be seated immediately. We were given a sunny window-side table with a view of Dongfang Shuicheng. The service was as refined and professional as you'd expect from a high-end restaurant.
Even though it was morning, we ordered several dishes to try. While everything was delicious, my personal favorite was the sea urchin dumplings and dried shrimp cabbage salad. My mom's pick was the sea cucumber dumplings! Despite initial concerns about a fishy taste, there was absolutely none. The dumplings were rich, savory, and naturally sweet. The sea cucumber dumplings had a unique texture, and the filling reminded me slightly of crab roe. Eating a mouthful of sea urchin was pure indulgence and happiness. The sea cucumber dumplings were truly special and a must-try for their rare and exquisite flavor.
Other dishes were equally delightful, and the Baijiu cocktail—a mix of three types of Baijiu—was aromatic and enhanced the flavors of the food. Surprisingly, it wasn't too strong, so I recommend giving it a try.
Dongfang Shuicheng is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Dalian!
