[Mumbai] Dhobi Ghat, the world's largest laundry factory
One of the famous tourist spots in Mumbai is Dhobi Ghat, the world's largest laundry factory!
More than a factory, it's a town! There is life there.
It has a history of over 100 years as a laundry, and apparently more than 7,000 people from 200 families work there.
It's unique to India, where occupations have been determined by caste for generations.
When you go inside, there are small pool-like washing areas lined up in the center.
Some people wash jeans, others white clothes, and they wash laundry sent off by their respective contractors.
They soak in water, bang the laundry against stones, and press it down with their hands to remove dirt.
