Depart from Kyoto😛Miyama Gassho Village❤️Classic thatched house😉Fairyland attractions
I have been to Shirakawa-go in Nagoya before 😛 I have always loved ❤️ there
I did not expect to have an almost place near Kyoto and much less people!!️
It is Meishan Gassho Village🙈
Miyama Yuki no-ri and Shirakawa-jo Gassho Village in Gifu Prefecture, as well as the Ochi-juku in Fukushima Prefecture, are known as the three largest existing agglomerations of thatched houses in Japan 🫶🏻
There are currently about 50 households building in Mei Shan Hop Chau Village👏🏻
Among them, about 40 thatched houses were selected as the National Important Traditional Buildings Preservation Area in 1993 👍🏻 However, most of them are residential
But seriously, Miyama's visibility is really low compared to Shirakawa's Gassho Village 🤔 So here I feel even more isolated from the world 😉
In fact, after you get off the car from the parking lot 🅿️ you can see the huts 🫶🏻 Miyama かやぶきの里 in the distance is not very big attraction
If you do not eat then actually 2 hours can be over
A little further 🤏🏻 you will be the only shop selling special products in the Miyama area かやの里🤪 You can go shopping before you leave
If you want to buy souvenirs, it's a good idea
What I recommend to you is Meishan milk and Meishan milk biscuits🍪👍🏻 Their taste is quite mellow🙈
Of course, there is no shortage of other Japanese specialties such as doughnuts 🍡 pickled foods 👏🏻 There are many local maps 🗺️ sightseeing manuals in front of the store so you can get them for free 🆓!! ️
Further on, you will reach the most stunning location in Miyama Town🙈
The thatched houses became the protagonist 👍🏻 taking pictures 📸️ really made it amazing 🥹 We can all pay attention to the roof of the thatched houses ❤️
The cross on it is used to reinforce the Japanese known as Chiki
The wooden strips placed on the entire row of cross wooden frames are to ease the snow cutting of snow accumulation in winter
It's amazing to be able to build such a house
It is only 1.5 hours from Kyoto
So if your days here are longer I think it's worth it

[Kyoto] Introducing Miyama Kayabuki Village, where you can see beautiful nature and typical Japanese scenery
Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato, located in the mountains in Miyama-cho, Nantan City, about an hour and a half north of Kyoto City by car, is home to 39 thatched-roof houses, and has been designated as a nationally designated "Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings."
Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture has a similar style of house, but while the roofs in Shirakawa-go are gassho-style, Miyama's are irimoya-style, making it a rare sight in Japan.
In summer, the lush natural scenery and in winter, you can see snow-covered thatched roofs, making it a popular tourist spot, and some people visit on motorcycle tours.

In the summer, Miyama Town and Gassho Village are both comfortable and cool.
- Three years later, I went to Japan to discover new places
It's the Matcha Tribe located in Miyama-cho, Nandan, Kyoto ✌🏻 It takes about an hour and a half to drive from Kyoto to Miyama-cho Gassho Village
The Gassho Village here is also a small and cute roof. Of course, there are also homestays and you can experience local life🤗 The most important thing is that there are not many people here🤤 You can have a lot of time to slowly appreciate the beauty of Japan

[Kyoto Nantan] Glamping facility in Hiyoshi
■DOD CAMP PARK KYOTO
Roadside Station Springs Hiyoshi Hiyoshi Station
Rurikei Onsen Kyoto
Today, I visited the glamping facility "DOD CAMP PARK KYOTO" in Springs Hiyoshi, located in the Hiyoshi area of Kyoto, with my wife and dogs★
The Hiyoshi area is home to the famous Hiyoshi Dam and Rurikei, and is full of nature, even in Kyoto, so you can relax♪
This is a glamping facility in collaboration with camping goods company DOD, and all the tents and camping equipment are from DOD🤣
Campers can't get enough of this♪
The location is excellent, and the tents are spacious and very comfortable👑✨
Glamping, dinner, and breakfast are included for 9,000 yen per person, which is very reasonable♪
For dinner, we had
🎈Stick salad,
🎈 BBQ set,
🎈Caponata pasta kit with local vegetables
🎈Rice cooked in a pot with Hiyoshi-grown rice
🎈Scallops grilled with herb butter and squid wrapped in foil
And it was a super luxurious dinner★
Breakfast was also
🎈Teriyaki chicken and thick egg with cheese hot sandwich
🎈Fresh vegetable salad from local farmers
Homemade onion dressing
🎈Mushroom soup
And the morning was also too luxurious🤣
Relaxing while eating delicious food surrounded by nature♪
It was a blissful refreshing time🙋♂️

Miyama Town
The unique Gassho Village❤️
The Thatched House Village in Miyama-cho presents the authentic Japanese village style that has been preserved since the Edo period. Like the Gassho Village in Shirakawa-go, it gives the illusion of traveling through time and space. The houses here are cute and small, with thatched eaves that give them a retro feel against the misty mountain foot. In the winter, Miyama Town is covered in white snow, dotted with bright yellow lights. The warmth amidst the bleakness is the most beautiful scenery in winter.
Taking a stroll in Miyama's thatched cottage village will be the most incredible experience you will have in Japan. The editor recommends that if you come to Miyama, you must stay here for a few days. In addition to the absence of the commercial atmosphere of Shirakawa-go, you can experience local Japanese life. The Japanese-made houses and furnishings will give you a travel experience that is more Japanese than Japan. You can even enjoy breakfast with local Japanese people.

Miyama Town, Kyoto
The thatched roofs of Miyama Town are reminiscent of the authentic Japanese village atmosphere of the Edo period, and the room has the illusion of transcending time and space, like the Shirakawa-go Gassho Village. The small and cute grass-covered roof exudes an old-fashioned feel at the foot of the clouds, and in winter Miyama Town is lit up with white snow and the yellow lights. The warmth of winter is the most beautiful scenery of winter.

Miyama Gassho Village (Kyoto Prefecture)
Different from Gassho Village in Shirakawa-go, Miyama Gassho Village in Kyoto Prefecture is a mini paradise but far away from the crowds. Miyama Gassho Village is located in a valley of more than 800 meters, about 1.5 hours from Kyoto and 2 hours from Osaka. After arriving in Miyama Town, I immediately felt that the air was fresh and the village had a unique Japanese rural simplicity. There are about 50 buildings in the entire village, including nearly 40 thatched houses. Different from the commercial feel of Shirakawa Township, the complete Japanese scenery is preserved here, and the entire trip can be completed in about one hour. Travelers who like to walk in the countryside may wish to take a walk here to experience a different feeling. #美川 #Gasho Village

Miyama Town looks like a Gassho Village
Miyama-cho is located in the middle of Kyoto Prefecture, about 1.5hrs drive from Kyoto city. There are about 50 households built in the village, including a total of 38 thatched houses. ●Access

It's a bit far from Kyoto Station, so it's hard to visit, but it's an area where you can enjoy the quiet nature.
Kayabuki-no-Sato, lined with thatched-roof houses, is a photogenic tourist spot.
There are also shopping spots for ice cream and manju, and you can enjoy the scenery that changes with the seasons.
I'd like to go there in the snowy winter season.

Trip to Kyoto! Visit Kayabuki Village and Miyama Town!
I visited Kyoto's Kayabuki Village, Miyama Town.
It's a wonderful place with a traditional Japanese landscape.
It's not often that you sit around a hearth and eat a meal, is it?
The water of the Yura River that flows nearby is so clear and relaxing.

One of the recommended destinations is Miyama, located about 30 kilometers from Kyoto. This is a preserved ancient village featuring traditional farmer houses called Kayabuki, which are distinct from the Shirakawa-go village.
A must-visit spot here is Kayabuki no Sato, a site with approximately 40 ancient houses where you can experience serene natural surroundings.

I stayed at Oak House for one night.
There was a river nearby, so it was nice to hang out.
A bath costs 600 yen per adult + 150 yen for a face towel.
There is a restaurant, so they sell pizza and other things.
The inside of Oak House is hot and there is no air conditioning, so it was difficult during the day.
However, it was quite cool at night, so it was not bad to sleep.
Since there is no bedding, you must prepare a sleeping bag.
There was no separate rental, etc.
It is well connected to other tourist attractions such as Kayabukisato,
and it is close to nature, so I was able to hang out and come back feeling good.

Kyoto! Miyama, the Hidden Gem!
Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka...are you tired of over touristy places??
But of course, still want to enjoy traditional beauty of Japanese culture.
But maybe want some nature with less people.
or maybe want to drive in Japan too?
Go to Miyama in Kyoto!
it's 1-2hrs drive from the city center.
Such a healing road trip.
Local market Michi no Eki to get some local snacks and veggies.
You can enjoy camping, hot springs, maybe swimming in the river in a month. Small rivers everywhere and Water is super clear.
Also visit “kayabuki no Sato”. A small village of traditional houses with Kayabuki roof, which is special traditional technique to protect the house using straws. Interesting to see how ppl still actually living there.
It’s same as Shirakawa go in Gifu prefecture (?) or Nagano prefecture(?) I forgot.
Anyway 1extra day trip to the countryside is strongly recommended just like I did! #kyoto #kyototrip #japan #miyamavillage

Miyama Kayabuki no Sato
\
It started raining halfway through so I only stayed for about an hour, but I enjoyed the world as if I had traveled back in time☺️💚
Miyama Town is an area in Nantan City, Kyoto, and there is a place called "Miyama Kayabuki no Sato".
There are many old-fashioned thatched roof houses remaining, and they are particularly concentrated in the Kitamura area.
There are 38 houses in total😆
It's beautiful in every season, but the most spectacular time seems to be the autumn leaves🐿️🍁🌳
I think I was a little early, but
The thatched roofs surrounded by red and yellow leaves are really like a painting, and it's a perfect place to take photos❣️
If you want to experience the old-fashioned scenery of Japan, I recommend it!

Hey friends👫, you absolutely have to visit Miyama Town to see the sunflowers!
Miyama Town is located in Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, with the address: 〒601-0712 Kyoto Prefecture, Nantan City, Miyama Town, Kita.
Every summer, Miyama Town is blanketed with vast fields of sunflowers🌻. The golden blooms bask in the sunlight, resembling the vibrant colors of a Van Gogh painting. The blue sky and the sea of flowers create a picturesque scene, making every photo effortlessly atmospheric📷—no filters needed!
As you stroll through the fields, the sunflowers tower over you, making it feel like you've wandered into a fairytale world. A gentle breeze rustles the flowers, their soft whispers telling the story of summer's warmth. Here, there's no city noise, only the chirping of birds and the fragrance of flowers.

[Kyoto] A trip to three traditional spots that showcase Kyoto's "other side"
#KyotoStrategy
🌿A trip to discover natural beauty and the good old days of Japan
It would be a waste to just stay in Kyoto City!
If you go a little further, there are many areas with spectacular views, traditions, and healing.
This time, we will introduce "3 inner sanctums of Kyoto" that will cleanse your soul.
① Amanohashidate
📍Miyazu City
Counted as one of the "Three Views of Japan," this sandbar is like a bridge to the sky.
The view from Kasamatsu Park, which you can reach by lift, is spectacular, and the classic way to enjoy it is to look through your legs.
This is a photo spot where you can get a panoramic view of the blue sea, sky, and rows of pine trees.
② Ine Funaya
📍Ine Town
A group of traditional boathouses facing the sea that give a glimpse into the lives of people who live with the sea.
The unique structure, with the first floor as a garage for boats and the second floor as living quarters, makes for a picturesque view no matter where you look.
The view from the sightseeing boat is also recommended! You can also taste fresh seafood.
③ Miyama Kayabuki Village
📍Nantan City
It's like a world of fairy tales, with rows of thatched-roof houses resembling gassho-style houses.
The village is beautiful in every season, with fresh greenery in spring, autumn leaves in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter.
It's a relaxing spot where time flows quietly and leisurely.

A Day Trip to Kyoto by the Sea: Amanohashidate, Ine Boathouses, and Miyama Town Exploration
This journey starts from Kyoto city and heads to the northern region known as "Kyoto by the Sea." Here, you can enjoy stunning ocean views and experience the most authentic fishing and mountain village vibes of Japan. A one-day itinerary offers a chance to immerse yourself in a completely different side of Kyoto.
Morning | Amanohashidate: One of Japan's Three Scenic Views
Arriving early in Miyazu City, I visited Amanohashidate and climbed up to "Kasamatsu Park." Using the classic "upside-down view" pose, I admired the sandbar scenery that truly resembles a bridge hanging upside down in the sky! You can take a cable car or a sightseeing boat to fully enjoy the breathtaking view where the sea meets the sky.
Noon | Ine Boathouses: Experience Life in Seaside Homes
Next, I headed to Ine Town, famous for its unique boathouse architecture built along the coast. The lower level serves as a boat garage, while the upper level is a living space—both distinctive and dreamy. You can take a sightseeing cruise around Ine Bay to watch seagulls circling and admire the boathouse clusters, which is incredibly soothing. For lunch, I recommend trying fresh seafood rice bowls at a local seafood eatery.
Afternoon | Miyama Town: Thatched Roof Houses and Rural Scenery
In the evening, I drove to Miyama Town, home to a precious cluster of traditional thatched-roof houses, reminiscent of a fairy tale world. Even just strolling quietly along the countryside paths allows you to feel the charm of Japan's original rural landscape.
This one-day Kyoto by the Sea itinerary combines ocean views, cultural experiences, and rural charm, making it one of my most unforgettable Kyoto memories.
Discover the enchanting beauty of Miyama, Kyoto!
Nestled in the mountains, this hidden gem boasts traditional thatched-roof houses and breathtaking landscapes. 🌿🏡 Stroll through the serene countryside, where time seems to stand still. Capture stunning views of lush rice paddies and vibrant flowers in every direction. Don’t miss the chance to immerse yourself in local culture at the Miyama Folk Museum, where history comes alive! 🍃❤️ Whether you're wandering through charming villages or savoring homemade soba noodles, Miyama is a must-visit for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike. Ready for your next adventure? 🌏✈️

The delicate sculptures in the main hall are worth seeing.
#aprilblooms
The shrine was founded in the 3rd year of Enkyu (1071) as the head shrine of Chiinosho Village. It was originally located in Minamimura Kaminomiya on the other side of the Yura River, but after it was flooded by a landslide, it was transferred to its current location. The current main hall was rebuilt in 1767. The origin dates back to the 6th year of Wado (713), and it is said that it was a shrine built in this area by the Koga Saburo Kaneie, who had exterminated the big deer, when eight large deer monsters appeared in the village.
The enshrined deities are Emperor Ojin, Suwa Myojin, and Chii Ichinomiya Myojin. The precincts are designated as "Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Property Environmental Conservation District", and the main hall of Sanmasha-ryu-zukuri is designated as "Kyoto Prefecture Designated Registered Cultural Property".

Miyama Kayabuki no Sato Village
Miyama Kayabuki no Sato, Miyama City, Kyoto Prefecture
A village with a high thatched roof and a distinctive red mailbox located in front of the village.
How to get there - We started from Namba Station (Midosuji Line) > Umeda Station and then Osaka Station (Tokaido-Sanyo Line) > Kyoto Station > Kyoto Station (San-In Line) > Sonobe Station, then took another train opposite > Hiyoshi Station. *You have to press the button to open and close the door on the Sonobe Line yourself.
Sightseeing Spots - Miyama Kayabuki no Sato
Hotel -
Restaurants and Food - We ate at shokujidokoro Kitamura, a homemade soba restaurant, because all the other shops in the village were closed 😭😭
Shopping -
The day we went (04/15/2025), it was drizzling all day. The village was very quiet. (It's like no one lives there.) There were very few tourists that day, so we had time to absorb the peaceful atmosphere. The spring atmosphere, cherry blossom trees were blooming, and colorful flowers along the path were blooming along the way. We walked around and took pictures until we forgot the time.
On the opposite side of the village, along the river (canal?), there was a row of cherry blossom trees that were blooming, very beautiful. Coming here was very impressive. The people were very lovely. There were 2 of us, but because it was raining and there was a place to borrow umbrellas, but there was only one umbrella. And by chance, we dropped the Hong Thai inhaler. Ojisan who was selling things there shouted "Thailand". I was confused. How did he know? Because we were wearing masks. Ojisan quickly took out his Hong Thai inhaler and showed it off, giving me a thumbs up. Then he lent me another umbrella, which made me feel relieved and happy. Before returning the umbrella, he raised his hands to thank us and said that Hong Thai was the best.

Kamakura Shrine where you can see the whole village
Overlooking the entire village, you can enjoy a 360-degree view without any blind spots, making it a great landmark for taking photos and checking in.
The highest point in the entire settlement, unobstructed views, superb high angle, great location.
The shrine is old and has a great atmosphere. The road is slippery on rainy days, so please walk slowly. You can include Miyama Thatched Cottage Village in your itinerary and stop by on the way.
