Gerbang Laut Pulau Mawar: Where the Ocean Paints on Giant Canvases" 🌊🎨

Forget ordinary beach trips—**Gerbang Laut Pulau Mawar** is Johor’s *hidden* seaside gallery, where nature itself becomes the artist. This coastal wonder near Batu Pahat features **otherworldly rock formations**, tidal pools that glow at dusk, and a "doorway to the sea" that frames perfect sunset shots. I went for quick photos and stayed until my phone died from overuse.
---
### **First "Wow" Moments**
- **The Rock Gate**: A natural stone archway framing the Malacca Strait like a living painting
- **The Colors**: At low tide, the exposed seabed creates **rainbow tidal pools** in rust-red, emerald, and gold
- **The Soundtrack**: Waves crashing through sea caves, creating a ghostly "ocean organ" effect
**"Only Here" Experience**:
Chasing **bioluminescent plankton** in knee-deep water after dark—every step lights up like Tinker Bell’s footprints!
---
### **Secret Spots**
🔍 **Dragon’s Back Ridge**: A jagged rock formation perfect for daredevil photos (watch your step!)
🔍 **Coral Graveyard**: A surreal stretch of beach littered with fossilized coral sculptures
🔍 **Hidden Cave Pool**: Only accessible at low tide—bring a flashlight to see the crystal-clear water glow
---
### **Must-Try**
🍢 **Grilled squid** from the roadside stalls—their sambal sauce will make you weep (in a good way)
🥥 **Young coconut ice cream** served in the shell—the ultimate beach dessert
---
### **Golden Hour Itinerary**
⏰ **4:00 PM**: Arrive, explore the rock formations
⏰ **5:30 PM**: Tidepool photography spree
⏰ **6:45 PM**: Sunset picnic at the sea arch
⏰ **8:00 PM**: Return for bioluminescence (check moon phases!)
---
### **Local Know-How**
- **Tide Times Rule All** (check online or ask fishermen)
- **RM5 Parking** (cash only)
- **Grippy Sandals** for slippery rocks
- **Dry Bag** for phones/keys
---
Gerbang Laut isn’t just a beach—it’s where **the sea performs daily magic shows**, where every rock tells a million-year-old story, and where you’ll take photos that make friends demand the GPS coordinates. Just don’t blame me when you start planning moonlight returns!
*Legend Says: The rock gate was carved by a lovelorn giant searching for his mermaid bride...*

For these 20 photos, I took a Three Gorges cruise❗️
This time I took the Century Triumphal Cruise,
Walking on water,
From Yichang to Chongqing,
5 days and 4 nights,
See the beautiful scenery of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River in one go.
P1, P2: Board the ship at Maoping Port. The macaron green cable car at the dock, the red pontoon and the mountains behind it form a fairy-tale picture.
P3, P4: Three Gorges Dam. A century-long project, very spectacular. Don’t worry if the weather is bad, the photos will look like ink paintings.
P5: Puppy Hill. Located in the Xiling Gorge section, the currently very popular super cute "🐶" is opposite the Jiuwanxi Bridge in Zigui. The host will introduce it specifically.
P6, P7: Goddess Creek. It is a very small tourist attraction and can only be easily reached by taking the Three Gorges cruise. Both sides of the Taiwan Strait are really beautiful, the only drawback is that the local guide was selling us the entire way back.
P8: Wu Gorge. Except for the Wushan Mountain which is not covered with clouds, Wu Gorge is my favorite among the Three Gorges.
P9: Qutang Gorge. The 10-yuan RMB background of Kuimen is a must-see!
P10: The first gate of Baidi City. Don’t go in yet. Climb a little to the left and take pictures through the circular doorway, which will allow you to avoid a lot of people.
P11: After passing through the door of P10, you can buy ice cream and take a photo at this signature gate.
P12, P13: The pavilion on the way down the mountain from Baidi City and the stone wall by the river are both great spots for taking photos with Kuimen.
P14, P15: Before returning to the pier, don’t miss Yidoumen. By observing passers-by and slowing down the shutter speed, you can take photos that give a sense of time travel. Walk down from the doorway to the pier and it's a great position to take pictures through the doorway.
P16: Fengdu Ghost Town. This trip is like walking through the gates of hell, and life will be smooth sailing from now on.
P17, P18: The floating bridge in front of Fengdu Wharf is also a good place to take photos with the boat.
P19: The night view of Fuling District, check in the city of Jiangcheng with lights just coming on.
P20: Arriving at Chongqing Chaotianmen Wharf, this angle of the Raffles can only be photographed on the boat.
The above are basically the attractions that the Three Gorges cruise will visit in 5 days and 4 nights.
If you go downstream from Chongqing to Yichang, it will take one less day.
The attractions and itineraries are not much different.
There is no boat from Yichang to Chongqing on the first night.
So there was that extra day.
Regarding the delicious food and fun on the ship,
See another note.

Hidden Gem in Pulau Mawar
Gerbang Laut Pulau Mawar, located some 30km or 30 minutes drive from Mersing town.
The scenery is so beautiful with slight adventurous trail to reach this place.
Park your car at Penyabong Car. Make sure you go in the noon time during the low tide. Otherwise you can’t cross to the island. It take about 10-15mins to reach Pulau Mawar on foot. Walk along the mangrove forest, before entered into a short jungle trekking.
A short hike up to the hill is a must before you can reach to the peak of Gerbang Laut, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the rock formation scenery. It’s very windy once you reach the peak.
A beautiful place to explore when you visit to Mersing
