As soon as you step into the first floor, a massive Buddha statue immediately catches your eye. Behind the statue, there are intricately carved traditional patterns on stone, showcasing remarkable craftsmanship. Although I only had time for a quick look, the grandeur of the exterior alone was impressive. Outside, there were sculptures of award-winning artworks from art competitions on display, making it enjoyable to view each piece. Each sculpture had a distinct personality, highlighting artistic sensibilities 🎨. There was also a cultural goods store where you could browse various merchandise. The museum is perfect for a casual visit, almost like taking a stroll, and it’s a place where you can experience both history and art in Gongju✨. Highly recommended as a date spot or for a family outing!

It can store up to 1.5 million cultural heritages by introducing a new storage system. The Chungcheong Regional Storage Facility is an open, observation-type storage facility. It has a specially designed observation bridge and glass walls, allowing you to see inside the storage facility. You can see representative cultural heritages stored and managed in the storage facility from the exhibition-type storage facility. This is the National Museum of Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, Republic of Korea. Ungjin Baekje and King Muryeong's Tomb Baekje lasted for 678 years from 18 BC until its fall in 660 AD, and is divided into Hanseong, Ungjin, and Sabi based on the location of its capital. Ungjin Baekje is the period from King Munju's move to Ungjin to King Seong's move to Sabi. Baekje moved its capital to Ungjin when it was in a national crisis due to the fall of Hanseong by Goguryeo and the death of King Gaero, but the chaos continued. King Muryeong, who ascended to the throne during this time, strengthened royal authority and stabilized the people's livelihood, and laid the foundation for the revival of Baekje. Ungjin Baekje inherited the culture of Hanseong Baekje, while also accepting and Baekjeizing the culture of the Southern Dynasties of China, which served as the driving force behind its cultural development. The tomb of King Muryeong and his queen, the Muryeong King, is a treasure trove of Baekje's ideology, craftsmanship, and cultural exchanges. Silla, which unified the three kingdoms, organized the local administrative system of nine provinces and five capitals to efficiently rule the old Baekje and Goguryeo regions. Chungcheongnam-do belonged to Ungcheon-ju, and Gongju in particular served as the center of Ungcheon-ju. Unified Silla during the North-South States Period granted official ranks to Baekje nobles and incorporated them into Silla's ruling order. In 822 (the 14th year of King Hyeondeok's reign), Kim Hyeon-chang rebelled in Ungcheon-ju, and maritime forces such as Bok Ji-gyeom and Park Sul-hui emerged along the coast of Ungcheon-ju and resisted Silla. #0yentripnovember When I heard that Gongju was once a capital, I wondered what era it was, but when I visited the first exhibition room, the Kumseongjin Baekje Room, of the National Gongju Museum, I realized that it was referring to the Baekje Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. This exhibition room displays artifacts excavated from the Tomb of King Muryeong (King Muryeong: 25th king of the Baekje Kingdom, 501-523 AD). In 1971, when they dug up a gentle hill for water pipe construction, they discovered that it was the huge tomb of King Muryeong, and an excavation was quickly carried out, unearthing 108 items and 4,600 artifacts. In the tomb, the bodies of the king and queen were placed in wooden coffins, and numerous ornaments and grave goods were found under the fragments of the wooden coffin. It makes me happy to know that they were a king and queen with good taste, even though I have no connection to it. At the booth next door, a project mapping showing the inside of King Muryeong's Tomb is shown every 30 minutes, so even if you don't understand the language, you can deepen your understanding of the inside of the tomb through visuals. It seems that it is currently not possible to see inside King Muryeong's Tomb due to excessive humidity, but at the museum you can learn about the history of the land called Gongju. In the Chungcheongnam-do History and Culture Room on the second floor, there is an exhibition about the Baekje culture that flourished in Kumseong. The Chungcheong Regional Storage Facility was built to store and manage cultural assets excavated by the Chungcheong Regional National Museum (Gongju, Buyeo, Cheongju Museum). About 1,800 cultural assets are lined up behind glass, from Neolithic comb-patterned earthenware to white porcelain from the Joseon Dynasty. The display method is apparently inspired by the National Folk Museum in Paju, and even though it looks like a collection of broken pottery at first glance, I think the reason it is so fascinating to look at is because it has a universal beauty that goes beyond just my love of pottery. On the image panels, you can find out more about each item with just one click, and the exhibition-style storage space is also at the forefront in terms of information disclosure.
