Excellent Dim Sum at Guangzhou Restaurant, Tianhe 😋– A Few Areas to Improve
I recently visited Guangzhou Restaurant (广州酒家) in Tianhe, 天河北, and had a highly enjoyable dining experience overall. The dim sum was consistently well-prepared, with standout dishes like the roast pigeon, shrimp chee cheong fun, and braised chicken feet – all executed to perfection and full of authentic Cantonese flavor.
Other dishes such as the carrot cake and char siew bao were also very good, though similar in quality to what’s now commonly found in Singapore and Malaysia, where Cantonese dim sum has rapidly caught up in recent years.
The tea and tea service were outstanding – attentive, elegant, and a highlight of the meal. The interior décor is beautifully luxurious and adds a real sense of occasion to the experience.
However, the cleanliness of the restrooms didn’t quite match the standard of the dining area – there was an unpleasant smell, which detracted slightly from the overall impression. Additionally, the service manager seemed disengaged and unwelcoming, which stood out in contrast to the otherwise professional service team.
Despite these small shortcomings, Guangzhou Restaurant in Tianhe remains a top spot for quality dim sum and classic Cantonese fare.
