Phra Nang Din Temple, Chiang Kham District
🛕Wat Phra Nang Din is an old temple that has been with the villagers in Chiang Kham District and nearby areas for a long time. It is located in Ban Phra Nang Din, Village No. 7, Wiang Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. The highlight of Wat Phra Nang Din is that it is a temple where the principal Buddha image of the temple does not have a pedestal (pedestal) to support it like the principal Buddha image in other temples. There is a legend told by the elders that there used to be villagers who built a pedestal and invited the Phra Nang Din to sit on it, but a miraculous event occurred when lightning struck the middle of the temple three times. The villagers then invited the Phra Chao Nang Din to be enshrined on the ground as before and have been calling it “Phra Nang Din” to this day. Currently, the Phra Nang Din is still enshrined in the temple on the floor of the temple with a glass cover. 🌳The area inside is spacious and shady with large trees. The most prominent one is probably the large crabapple tree that spreads its branches to provide shade and help relieve some of the heat. Near the temple is a beautifully decorated Lanna-style pagoda decorated with striking gold.
🚗Directions: Take Highway 1148 south, 4 kilometers from Chiang Kham District. Wat Phra Nang Din will be on the right.
Admission fee: Free
Opening hours: Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Phra Nang Din Temple, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province
Wat Phra Nang Din, an unseen wonder of Thailand, is located in Wiang Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. It is a temple where the principal Buddha image of the temple does not have a base like other principal Buddha images. In the past, people built a base to invite the principal Buddha image to be enshrined on the base, but it turned out that no matter how hard they tried to lift it, they could not. Therefore, it was called Phra Nang Din. In addition, the elders have told each other that there was a villager who built a base and invited Phra Chao Nang Din to sit on it. But a miracle happened when lightning struck the middle of the temple 3 times. All Buddhists invited Phra Chao Nang Din to be enshrined on the ground as before until today.
Take Highway No. 1148 to the south, 4 kilometers from Chiang Kham District. Wat Phra Nang Din is on the right.

The people of the city were devout Buddhists and built a Buddha statue known as "Phra Chao Nang Din." It is said that the Buddha prophesied that the city would prosper in the future, becoming wealthy and eventually known as "Chiang Kham."
📒 The city's motto: A land of Dharma, home to Phra Nang Din, where rivers flow, Tai Lue textiles are woven, waterfalls are renowned, Kanang Nam Min is cherished, and the forests and land are abundant.

He invited people with faith to join in renovating and improving the building.

🧭..It is a landmark that tourists should not miss when visiting Chiang Kham.
Traditional ways of life that are fading away today
If you come to Chiang Kham, another highlight that you must not miss is
"Hen Tai Lue Mae Saeng Da"
This ancient house still maintains its originality, both in terms of house design, way of life, traditions, and there is a role model who always tells and shares experiences for us to listen to, such as Mae Saeng Da Samrit.
Mae Uai is almost nine years old, but is still strong and still spins cotton.
There is also a weaving area under the house. Sometimes, Mae Uai comes down to weave herself.
Mae Uai is friendly and welcomes guests, making them feel like they are visiting a relative's house.
Upstairs, they sell small products, mainly Tai Lue woven fabrics, bags, clothes, and scarves, all of which are handmade products.
Mae Uai said that she uses the money she earns from selling her products to repair the house.
There is a kitchen, a porch, and an open hall, with one corner set up as Mae Uai's bed, living a simple and humble life.
When I have a chance, I will visit Mae Uai at home again.
P.S. Ms. Sai wonders if Mae Uai Saeng Da is the role model that the agency wrote as supplementary reading. In the Thai language textbook for primary school, right? >> Grandma Uai's daughter confirmed that it was not, but the names are the same, the lifestyles are similar.

A temple where the principal Buddha statue does not have a base to support it.
🏡 Wat Phra Nang Din is an ancient temple located in Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. The unique feature of this temple is that its principal Buddha statue does not have a base to support it, unlike other temples.
There is a legend that in the past, villagers built a base for the statue and enshrined the principal Buddha on it. However, the next morning, something strange happened—the Buddha statue descended to the ground as before. Despite villagers attempting to place it back on the base three times, the statue returned to the ground each time. Eventually, the villagers decided to leave it on the ground and called it "Phra Nang Din" (Buddha Sitting on the Ground), a name that has persisted to this day.
🙏 Currently, Phra Nang Din remains enshrined on the floor of the temple hall, protected by a layer of transparent glass.
🙏 It is believed that this Buddha statue was created during the time of the Lord Buddha over 2,500 years ago. The construction took 1 month and 7 days to complete.
Key attractions within the temple include:
🏠 The temple hall: Featuring Lanna-style architecture, it houses the Phra Nang Din statue.

🏡 Wat Nantaram It is not known when it was built. It was originally called Jong Man or Jong Kha because it was thatched with cogon grass (Jong means temple). Later, the temple lacked caretakers until in 1924, Father Tak Jong Nanta (Wu) Wong-anan, a Pa-O (Tong Su) wealthy person, invited the villagers to join in renovating the temple.
🏘When someone donated land to the temple, Father built the current temple by hiring Burmese craftsmen to design and construct it. To commemorate Father Tak, the temple's name was changed to Wat Nantaram.
Important and interesting things in the temple include:
🏠 The temple is made entirely of wood. The architectural style is lower Burmese. The gable roof is beautifully tiered. The ceiling is decorated with intricately patterned stained glass.
