After visiting the courtyard of the Jim Thompson Museum, we returned to the starting point. In order to protect the precious wooden floor, the guide asked everyone to put their shoes in the shoe cabinet, and then started to explore the interior of this historic building from the first floor. The floor is not big, but it has a rich collection, with many images of gods and Buddhas and statues from hundreds of years ago on display. We walked up to the second floor along the antique wooden planks, where we used to dine, filled with all kinds of Chinese porcelain and tableware. Next, we came to the spacious living room, which was where Thompson received guests. As I walked through the living room and headed for the master bedroom, a carved wooden door caught my eye. The tour guide revealed that there was a safe hidden behind the door. Only Thompson knew the password, and it has not been opened yet, adding a bit of mystery. During the entire visit, in addition to appreciating historical relics, you can also feel the atmosphere and stories of past life. Jim Thompson was originally an architect with a hobby of collecting antiques. After retiring from the army after World War II, he came to Thailand to engage in silk trade and became a famous silk king in Thailand. Later, during a trip to Malaysia, he mysteriously disappeared. His life was very legendary. This private residence is quite unique, made up of seven different traditional Thai buildings. Jim Thompson has lived here for eight years and has a rich collection of antique artworks from northern Thailand, Yunnan, Myanmar and Cambodia. The garden is very lush and green, and it really has a resort atmosphere. There is a small canal behind the mansion, which used to connect the Thompson mansion to the factory on the other side. It is a former royal residence, showcasing stunning architecture and the revered Emerald Buddha. The building was very beautiful and worth to visit. 📍Na Phra Lan Road, Phra Nakhon. I would also recommend you to visit Wat Pho. It is famous for the Reclining Buddha statue and as a traditional massage school. We spent half day exploring around had a lot of street food nearby ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍 2 Sanamchai Road, Phra Nakhon. We also visited the famous Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). The Iconic riverside temple known for its towering spires. The central prang (tower) of Wat Arun is decorated with colorful porcelain and seashells, which create intricate patterns. We walked around slowly to admire the detailed craftsmanship and the beautiful spires. 📍158 Thanon Wang Doem, Wat Arun, Bangkok Yai Last but not least, I would also recommend you to visit Jim Thompson House. A museum in a traditional Thai house dedicated to the American silk entrepreneur, Jim Thompson. The highlight of visiting Jim Thompson House is the guided tour. Knowledgeable guides took us through the six traditional Thai-style houses that make up the complex, explaining the history of the house, Jim Thompson's life, and the artifacts he collected. It is very worth to visit 🙌🙌🙌 📍6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Road, Pathumwan. As for local Thai food, I would recommend you to try Jay Fai. If you prefer a decent restaurant, you can check out the Gaggan Anand. A renowned fine dining restaurant. The food was very lovely as well as the staffs. The price was reasonable. Opening hours - Daily from 10am to 6pm. Guided tours are provided in English, French, Japanese, Chinese and Thai with the last session at 5pm. We were lucky that our hotel is located just 1 lane away from the building so it is just a 10mins walk. Visits are all by guided tours at THB200 per adult. We were brought round the building/house and we all have to remove our footwear. Love the architecture. Really very rustic and will very heavy culture atmosphere. We got to know more about the history of Mr Jim Thompson. There’s a alfresco cafe towards the end of the tour and also a big souvenir shop at the ground floor. As tourist, we can get VAT exemption/arrangement at the shop. Highly recommended to do a visit. The Jim Thompson House Museum is located next to the Saen Saep Canal, in Soi Kasem San 2, opposite MBK and Suphachalasai Stadium. There are several ways to get there: - BTS: Get off at National Stadium Station and walk a bit. - Saen Saep Canal Boat: Get off at Saphan Hua Chang Pier and walk along the canal to the west. - Cars: You can park your car at the Jim Thompson Art Center. We called to check the tour schedule before going and booked over the phone. When we arrived, we paid the entrance fee. If we didn't call in advance, we might have to wait in line if there were a lot of people. The museum offers tours in several languages, so you can ask the staff over the phone about the schedule. The entrance fee is 200 baht per adult. The tour guide will take you around the house for about half an hour. This time, I went to see it after not going for over 20 years. The details that the tour guide gave me were probably not the same as before. I personally think that it was not as detailed, maybe because there were a lot of people and they couldn't explain for a long time. But overall, it was satisfactory. There was also an additional section on Jim Thompson's biography. Nestling inside the local house at Rama I, Jim Thompson House Museum is another tourist spot to learn and discover the story of Jim Thompson, an American businessman who help revitalized the Thai Silk industry. This house Museum, is divided into a few sections, and in one area, the visitor needs a ticket and wait to enter the house.
