It has been rebuilt multiple times, with its current structure completed between the 10th year of the Zhengde reign and the 6th year of the Jiajing reign during the Ming Dynasty. This tower is a representative masterpiece of glazed pagodas in China and holds the Guinness World Record as the tallest multicolored glazed pagoda in the world. We arrived in the afternoon, and under the pure, dazzling sunlight of southern Shanxi, the pagoda suddenly appeared before us, radiant and colorful, resembling a "flying rainbow." From the surrounding gallery to the spire, the entire tower is adorned with glazed components in five colors: yellow, green, blue, white, and ochre. The intricate designs of coiling dragons, dancing phoenixes, powerful warriors, and auspicious beasts are vivid and lifelike, with vibrant colors that captivate the eye. It's hard to believe that this pagoda has stood for over 500 years, surviving an 8.0 magnitude earthquake during the Kangxi era, yet remains perfectly intact. This site was used as a filming location for the 1986 TV adaptation of "Journey to the West" in the episode "Tang Monk Sweeps the Pagoda to Resolve a Strange Case," as well as for the game "Black Myth: Wukong." It’s quite stunning and worth a visit. 🧡Dongyue Temple, located at the top of Baishan Mountain, has few tourists. The carvings of Leizhenzi and heavenly soldiers are incredibly lifelike. 🧡Day 3️⃣: Hukou Waterfall Hukou Waterfall is divided into two scenic areas: Shanxi and Shaanxi. You must visit the Shanxi side to see the Yellow River roaring up close—it’s truly breathtaking. The Shaanxi side is a bit farther from the river and doesn’t offer that immersive experience. 🚗Transportation: Fly✈️ or take the high-speed train🚅 to Linfen. It’s recommended to rent a car locally since the distances between attractions are quite far. The Great Pagoda Tree ancestral worship tradition has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. During the Hongwu and Yongle periods of the Ming Dynasty, to restore production, increase population, and develop the economy in provinces severely affected by years of war and drastic population decline, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang implemented a series of measures including migration for land reclamation, rewards for opening up wasteland, military settlements, and merchant settlements. Shanxi became a major source of outbound migrants. Over fifteen years, there were eighteen large-scale official migrations, initially requiring one male from each household and later two out of three males to relocate. Migrants were sent to over 500 counties in Henan, Hebei, Shandong, and other provinces, with more than 1,230 surnames recorded. Today, wherever there are Chinese communities worldwide, descendants of these Great Pagoda Tree migrants can be found.
