[Fukuoka Prefecture/Yamaguchi Prefecture] Two prefectures at the same time 🧍♀️👣
📍Fukuoka Prefecture & Yamaguchi Prefecture
The Kanmon Tunnel is a 780-meter-long undersea tunnel that connects Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture and Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
The upper part is a roadway, the lower part is a sidewalk, and the pedestrian tunnel can be passed on foot.
This is the first time I've experienced being in two prefectures at the same time, so I'd like to introduce it to you.
[Start]
Start from the Fukuoka Prefecture side
↓
Walk for about 15 minutes
↓
Arrive in Yamaguchi Prefecture, get your stamp
↓
Return to the Fukuoka Prefecture side
↓
Walk for 15 minutes
↓
Arrive in Fukuoka Prefecture, get your stamp
[Notes]
・About 15 minutes one way
・Walking is free, bicycles/motorcycles are 20 yen
・There is a rule that bicycles/motorcycles must be pushed to cross
・Stamps are available in the underground passage.
I didn't notice on the way there and ended up going from Yamaguchi Prefecture to Fukuoka Prefecture, but it doesn't matter which one you start from. There are no rules.
It's quite an interesting experience. Please come and check it out for your travels🔖

[Fukuoka Prefecture] Tour Moji Retro in 1 Day
📍Moji, Fukuoka Prefecture
Moji, located in Kitakyushu, is also known as "Moji Retro."
I first visited because I heard that you can enjoy a retro atmosphere because the buildings from the Meiji and Taisho eras remain intact.
I didn't know what "retro" meant before I went, but this time I felt that the town was "historic yet still lively," and I truly enjoyed the retro atmosphere.
I will introduce the places I visited in order.
⚫︎Mojiko Station
⚫︎Kaeri-mizu
⚫︎Old Moji Mitsui Club
⚫︎Blue Wing Moji
⚫︎Mekari Shrine
⚫︎Kanmon Tunnel Artificial Road
⚫︎Birthplace of Banana Bargain Sales
⚫︎Warehouse Art
⚫︎Starbucks Mojiko
These are the places I visited on foot.
It takes about 40 minutes one way to get to the Kanmon Tunnel Artificial Road.
It's a walk along the sea, so if the weather is good, I highly recommend it.
Please use this as a reference for your trip🔖

[Walking across the prefecture? A setting for ghost stories?] A journey to experience the romance of history in Yamaguchi
The first place we visited was the Kanmon Tunnel for People. I have become a woman who straddles Fukuoka and Yamaguchi prefectures!!
This is a spot where you can have the mysterious experience of walking under the sea and crossing prefectures. Underwater tunnels are exciting, aren't they?
Right nearby is Akama Shrine.
The pure white building that resembles Ryugu-jo Castle is impressive, but it is actually known as the setting of "Mimi-nashi Hoichi". It is a sacred space that enshrines the spirits of the Heike clan, and there is a unique atmosphere where history and legend intersect.
We also stopped by the remains of the Maeda Battery in Chofu.
The remains of a huge cannon that was once built to intercept foreign ships. It was a place that made my heart warm when I imagined the tension of the late Edo period.
I was also very satisfied to listen to the kamishibai (picture storytelling) performed by the volunteers!!

[Yamaguchi/Fukuoka] Walk under the Kanmon Strait for free?! Kanmon Tunnel for pedestrians
#Spring0yenTrip
The Kanmon Tunnel pedestrian tunnel is a pedestrian-only tunnel that connects Shimonoseki and Moji, and offers the rare experience of walking 56 meters under the sea. The tunnel is bright and well-maintained, and there are several exhibits related to history and geology, so you can learn as you walk. After taking the elevator down from the entrance and going through the tunnel, you will see the "prefectural border" line along the way, and you will feel the moment when you cross Honshu and Kyushu. After passing through the tunnel, a retro townscape spreads out on the Moji side, and it was fun to stroll around. It was a unique experience to walk across the Kanmon Strait, and I was able to enjoy the majestic scenery of the strait while feeling the history.

[Yamaguchi, Shimonoseki] Experience walking through the sea and crossing prefectural borders👣
The Kanmon Strait lies between Yamaguchi Prefecture on Honshu and Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu.
There is a large bridge that allows you to travel by car, but there is also a tunnel under the bridge, so you can cross the strait on foot!
There is no toll if you walk across it. 😉
Take the elevator down and walk through the 780m tunnel to reach the other side.
There is a sign indicating this at the prefectural border, so it feels like a rare experience✨
You can walk from either Shimonoseki on the Yamaguchi side or Mojiko on the Fukuoka side, but please note that the opening hours are from 6am to 10pm, so it is not 24 hours⚠️
This time, after staying overnight in Shimonoseki, we crossed the tunnel to Mojiko and went sightseeing, then left Mojiko in the evening and headed to Kitakyushu Airport😀
Visit date: February 2024
