It was officially opened to the public on November 2, 2018, and the distinctive architectural design of the museum is said to be modeled after the Jiaoweiqin. The total building area is 18,000 square meters, of which more than 8,000 square meters are exhibition rooms. The exhibition area is divided into three floors, with the first and second floors being the museum and the third floor being the special exhibition area. The exhibits are displayed in order of age, starting from the middle Eocene epoch 45 million years ago.
