LOTTE City Hotel Daejeon: A Convenient and Comfortable Stay
#cityplaybook
Having to unexpectedly book a stay in Daejeon, I found myself at LOTTE City Hotel Daejeon. While Hotel Onoma initially appeared to be the top choice in Daejeon, I opted for LOTTE City Hotel as a solid alternative for this impromptu trip, with plans to properly experience Hotel Onoma at a later date.
Though I'm not intimately familiar with Daejeon, the hotel's vicinity felt like a new town in the northern part of the city, characterized by numerous tall and densely packed buildings. A significant advantage of the hotel's location is the large international exhibition center across the street, which conveniently houses a branch of the famous Sungsimdang bakery. While not the main branch, it’s a great option for satisfying your Sungsimdang cravings. However, it's worth noting that there weren't many shops or dining establishments directly in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
The lobby, though not expansive, was impeccably clean and well-maintained, exuding a polished and sparkling appearance. For my stay, I booked a Deluxe room, as the price difference between Standard and Deluxe wasn't significant. The primary distinction between the room types doesn't seem to be in the room size itself, but rather in the view and floor level: Standard rooms offer a city view from lower floors, while Deluxe rooms provide a river view from higher floors. As it was a Monday during the off-peak season, I managed to book a Deluxe Double River View room for around 130,000 KRW for one night, suggesting that weekday off-peak rates are generally quite reasonable.
Upon entering the room, I immediately walked to the window to check out the view. It offered a view of the TJB broadcasting station. Although I booked a city view, I could discern a bit of the river. When I checked in, the sky was clear, but on the morning of my checkout, the sky was completely covered with clouds, which made for a rather nice view.
The bathroom was exceptionally clean. However, a recurring thought whenever I stay at a hotel comes to mind: why are hotel bathroom doors often sliding doors? It always feels as if the door isn't fully closed when using the facilities. A generous supply of five towels for a one-night stay was definitely appreciated.
The bed in the room held a pleasant surprise; despite the detailed description on the booking page mentioning two single beds, it turned out to be one large, combined bed once I pulled back the duvet. This is a good piece of information for those who might prefer separate sleeping arrangements due to restless sleeping habits! Nevertheless, the bed was very comfortable and provided a good night's sleep.
Overall, LOTTE City Hotel Daejeon offers a clean and comfortable experience with a decent location for specific purposes, particularly for those attending events at the exhibition center or looking for easy access to Sungsimdang.
