Naga Monument in Nakhon Phanom
An important attraction not to be missed if you visit Nakhon Phanom. Near the walking street and on the riverside. The statue is 7 headed Naga which is a river serpent spraying water. I went in early August and it rained so the photos are not bright enough. The walking street starts on Friday. I think they walk on Saturday and Sunday too. It’s a lively area for family gatherings. You can see the underground small bazaar here right next to the statue. On the other side of the street a few steps away is a traditional market. Across the river is Laos with the town named Thakhek where you will see the Naga Statue with a different shape and looks more impressive. The river crossing is for Thai and Lao citizens only. Other nationalities must cross by road. Bus connecting Nakhon Phanom and Thakhek runs 4 times a day: 9:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 16:30. Ticket costs 70 or 75 Baht depending what time you go and they charge overtime fee 10,000 Kip if you arrive in Laos on weekend or 6-8am or 4-10pm. Bus takes about 90 minutes. Going back to Thailand might need more than 2 hours as clearing immigration takes longer.
