While traveling on Amami Oshima, I came across a restaurant with an intriguing name, so I stopped in for lunch. This "Shima Tofu-ya" is a tofu shop that makes the island tofu that is distributed on Amami Oshima. It's so popular with locals and tourists alike that it fills up as soon as it opens. Of course, there was a wait, and we waited for over an hour, but the amazing taste and volume made it a delicious lunch that was worth waiting in line for. Even more surprising was the reasonable price, with a set meal that was so big you couldn't finish it for 1,300 yen. You'll definitely have to queue, so make sure you arrive with plenty of time, but it's a famous restaurant that you should definitely visit. Heart Rock is a heart-shaped tide pool that appears only at low tide on the coast near the village of Akaogi. It's famous as a power spot for love. Kasen Pass is a spectacular viewpoint in the mountains where you can see the East China Sea on the left and the Pacific Ocean on the right. *I thought it was Kashiken, but "Kaseken" is correct. The Tatsugo Town website states Kaseken Hill, and when I asked the town hall, they said it was "Kaseken". Name: Kasen Pass (a hill where you can see two seas) Location: Akaogi, Tatsugo Town, Oshima District, Kagoshima Prefecture Access: About 35 minutes by car from Amami Airport Parking: Yes The directions were easy to understand when I looked at the Tatsugo Town website. It is a pass that you reach at the end of an up-and-down drive in the mountains. Please refer to the third to fifth photos for the parking lot. After parking the car in the parking lot, it was a few minutes' walk to the point where you can take a photo from the center of the island. It is backlit in the morning, so I recommend visiting in the afternoon. It was a spectacular view. Heart Rock is a spot you can't miss when you come to Amami Oshima 🥰 A rock carved into a heart shape that appears at low tide. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to see Heart Rock this time, but we were very satisfied with the beautiful sea, which was more than enough to make up for the disappointment 😂💗 This beauty without a filter. The water is crystal clear and the turquoise blue is of the highest quality. Before you reach the beach, you have to go through a somewhat overgrown forest, so be careful of snakes! I went to the restaurant "forest" with a view of the ocean for lunch🍴 The view, the quality of the food, and the price were all the best!!! ✨ It was reasonably priced, the portions were large, and most importantly, it was delicious🤤🤤🤤💓 It's attached to the Native Sea Hotel, so it's easy to navigate to the hotel using the navigation system. Seascape Villas and Bayview Villas, which opened in July 2024, offer a new experience of being surrounded by the forest and sea in the nature of Amami Oshima. As the ocean turns orange at dusk, we are guided to our private room at AMANARI, and a course meal that makes use of Amami's nature and island ingredients unfolds before our eyes. We begin with a leisurely potage of turnip and cycad seeds. This is followed by a plate of shellfish and seasonal vegetables. The sashimi that follows is extremely fresh, and the taste of the island's ocean is felt on the tongue. The fried dish is Kagoshima-style fish kamaboko, and the warm dish is steamed taro buns. The main dish is Kagoshima black beef sirloin flavored with black vinegar sauce. It is perfectly cooked and soft, melting in the mouth. Instead of white rice, we are served a sushi platter recommended by the chef and miso soup of the day, and each bite of nigiri further deepens the afterglow of our island trip. The final dessert is seasonal anmitsu. A spoonful of it is packed with the bounty of nature and the kindness of the craftsman. A one-day trip to experience the traditions and nature of Amami Oshima! First, we went to 📍Oshima Tsumugi Village for a dyeing experience. Oshima Tsumugi, a traditional craft representative of Amami, is characterized by its deep black-brown dyeing using a unique technique called mud dyeing. Under the guidance of a craftsman, we tried tie-dyeing by ourselves, and completed a one-of-a-kind piece. We were moved by the feeling of Amami's nature and culture in each process! If you visit Amami Oshima, you should try the famous dish "Keihan" at least once. I went to Kanai Kogei in Amami Oshima to do some mud dyeing! You can experience mud dyeing and indigo dyeing for 3000 yen! (Bring 3 items) I think the number could have been increased by adding an extra fee! Even if you don't bring anything, Kanai Kogei also has T-shirts and tote bags ✨ Of course, I recommend making a reservation in advance ☺️ This time I remade a stained T-shirt! Shima Tofuya Takano is a tofu specialty restaurant on Amami Oshima, run by the long-established local restaurant "Takano Tofu Shop." They offer a variety of tofu dishes, including yuba, soy milk, and okara, as well as "shima tofu" made with bittern from Amami's beautiful seawater.  The interior of the restaurant has a calm atmosphere reminiscent of a Showa-era diner, and there are tatami seating areas, making it an easy environment for families to use. When you order a set meal, you can enjoy self-service yudofu, soy milk, and Amami's traditional drink "miki." SUNTOKU CAFE is a cafe where you can enjoy lunch, sweets, and alcohol along with home-roasted coffee. The menu uses local ingredients and the calm atmosphere of the store are attractive, providing visitors with a relaxing time.  It was near the bus stop, so I got some delicious takeout coffee! Surrounded by the natural beauty of Amami, Hamachidorikan is an observation facility where you can enjoy the charms of brown sugar shochu with all five senses. Yumeori no Sato, located in Tatsugo-cho, Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, is an experiential theme park operated by a weaver of authentic Amami Oshima Tsumugi. Here, you can not only observe the entire process of Oshima Tsumugi, from designing to dyeing and weaving, but you can also actually experience it. I will introduce the spots I visited this time along with my experiences. ⚫︎Kinsakubaru Primeval Forest A famous spot as the location for the movie "Godzilla vs. Mothra". It looks like Japan, but it's not Japan. The freshness of the trees and the plants you've never seen before make you think Godzilla might appear. You can hear the birds singing. Since 2019, it has become mandatory to have a certified guide accompany you on this tour. The meals, which have been praised by word of mouth, are all exceptionally delicious. I was able to enjoy the hotel while on Amami Oshima! Pour chicken broth over rice. You can have as much soup and rice as you want. You can also have just the soup. This restaurant serves homemade papaya, which you can eat on top of rice. The soup alone is absolutely delicious. The chicken sashimi is also great! You'll probably have to queue at lunchtime, so I recommend visiting at a different time!

The place where I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days is conveniently located just 2 minutes walk from a private beach! Moreover, it just opened in 2024, and the rooms are clean. The room I stayed in had a living room in the center and bedrooms on the left and right, so it was perfect for a group! It has a kitchen, microwave, kettle, tableware, etc. It was convenient to buy fresh fruit and cut it up in the room, or eat local side dishes in the room♪ It's also about 20 minutes by car from the airport◎ The last photo is a starry sky taken with a camera from the parking lot!
