Located between the old town and Getsemaní, this small park (about one block in area) is a historic green space created in 1911 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of independence. Meeting a sloth sleeping soundly between the trees is a real surprise on your trip .

・The best time to see sloths is from morning to just before dusk. They usually rest in leafy areas in the afternoon, but they may come down from the shade in the evening.

✨Recommended points
• An extraordinary encounter with nature: It's surprising to see sloths, monkeys, squirrels, and iguanas relaxing in the shade of the trees, even though it's right next to the castle walls!
• Fun to look for creatures: When you look up at the trees, you'll see birds, squirrels, and sloths...the moment of discovery is irresistible
• Interacting with local guides: People taking photos and ice cream sellers telling you "this is it" will be a warm memory of your trip.
⸻
🎒Tips
• The best time is morning and evening: If you want to quietly observe the trees and find animals, this is the time to go.
• Binoculars are a good idea: You can slowly observe sloths and small animals on the branches of tall trees from a distance.
• Don't touch wild animals: The rule is to watch them as they are. When taking photos, enjoy the sunlight filtering through the trees as well 📷
• Support local conservation efforts: As a protected area, please follow etiquette by not touching, feeding, or getting too close.

Wild encounter in the heart of Cartagena
If you’re visiting Cartagena, make sure to stop by Centrenario park! It’s a small park in the city, but if you’re lucky, you can see some amazing animals living freely in the trees.
When I went, I saw a mama sloth holding her baby! It was so cute and peaceful 🦥💚 There were also monkeys, colourful parrots and even lizards sunbathing in the path 🐒🦜🦎
It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a bit of nature☺️ Don’t forget to look up! You never know what animals you might see!
