Morning Sea of Mist at Phu Thok
Phu Thok, located in Chiang Khan, Loei Province, is a breathtaking destination for nature lovers and sunrise enthusiasts. Known for its spectacular sea of mist, the site offers an unforgettable experience as layers of clouds blanket the surrounding valleys and mountains, creating a surreal, dreamlike view.
To witness this magical scenery, visitors need to rise early—around 4:30 to 5:00 a.m.—to make their way to the viewpoint. The journey to the top is an adventure in itself, and once you arrive, the reward is a serene atmosphere and a front-row seat to watch the sun slowly illuminate the misty landscape.
The best time to visit Phu Thok is during the cool season, from November to February, when the mist is at its thickest. It’s a peaceful and refreshing experience, perfect for those seeking tranquility and the beauty of nature.

Chetiyakireewihan Temple or Phu Tok
Wat Chetiyakireewihan or Phu Tok was established in 1940 by Phra Ajahn Juan Kulchettho who came to practice meditation at Phu Wua, Seka District, Nong Khai Province. One night, he had a vision of two beautiful castles on the Phu Tok Noi side. Phra Ajahn Juan Kulchettho therefore traveled to verify the vision and found the beautiful and shady terrain suitable for practicing meditation. He surveyed and set up camp in a cave on Phu Tok with Phra Khru Srithammawat. Later, the villagers of Kham Kaen saw Phra Ajahn Juan Thudongph staying at Phu Tok, so they unanimously asked him to build a temple at Phu Tok. In 1969, the villagers of Na Kham Kaen helped build stairs up to Phu Tok, up to the 5th and 6th levels. They built the residences for the monks for 2 months and 10 days before it was completed in 1970–1971.
