Take the Hokuto from Sapporo to Shiraoi, and you can reach Kai-Boroto in a few minutes. With the halo of newly opening in 2022, it has become one of the must-stay attractions in southern Hokkaido. The room space is about 17 pings and has an independent hot spring. It is recommended to go to the 🔺 hot spring. The brown carbonated spring is rare. The men's hot spring has an endless view of Lake Poloto. The snow scenery in winter is beautiful. The food quality is above average. The Aboriginal Symbiosis Center next to it is also worth a visit. Shopping - The museum gift shop has a good variety of products, some of which are made by Ainu people. I couldn't get the commercial "Upopoy, Upopoy~♫" that was playing when it first opened out of my head, so I finally made it here🤣 Please note that you need to pay a timed admission fee to enter the National Ainu Museum! We made a special stop at Kani Goten while driving through Shiraoi, and I’m so glad we did. This place is all about crab—from fresh to dried, live tanks to grilled and ready-to-eat. As someone who loves seafood, especially crab, it felt like a dream. There’s a restaurant inside the building, and we went straight for a crab feast. I ordered the kani-don (crab rice bowl), which was generously topped with sweet, juicy crab meat. It was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. We also tried their crab miso soup—rich and comforting, perfect for the cool weather. After lunch, we explored the shop area, which was filled with every imaginable type of crab product. The staff were very friendly and even offered us samples. It was hard not to walk out with a bag full of crab snacks and souvenirs. After arriving at Shiraoi Station, I found it to be a quiet and serene place surrounded by nature. The station exudes a peaceful atmosphere, and according to the information I gathered, the onsen hotel is indeed located here. As I walked, I noticed wisps of smoke rising in the distance, which I assumed to be the steam from the hot springs. Upon entering KAI, I was greeted by a picturesque onsen hotel blanketed in snow. The harmony between the hot springs and the snow was truly breathtaking. Reflecting on this, I realized that respecting nature allows it to offer you unexpected gifts. On April 25, we stayed at KAI Harodo in Shiraoi, Hokkaido, a hot spring hotel under the Hoshinoya Group. It looks extremely low-key from the outside, and even made us wonder if we had come to the wrong place. But once we stepped into the lobby, had dinner and returned to the room, we were pleasantly surprised. This time we stayed in a quadruple room. As soon as we entered the room, we saw a spacious entrance hall with a separate bathroom and toilet. Although the bathroom design is quite standard, the room is very spacious and the four beds are so soft and comfortable that you won't want to get up once you lie down. Even more amazing is the spacious living room, with natural light pouring in from the windows. The overall space is comfortable and relaxing, and the luggage has already been thoughtfully placed. The hot spring is divided into two areas: the indoor hot spring pool is open to the public and the environment is a bit crowded; the semi-outdoor hot spring pool is only for guests, with a quiet environment and a wide view. Although we booked one of the cheaper rooms, it was still very spacious with a large bed and an endless lake view that never gets old. The amenities were also very comprehensive. As for the onsen, there are both outdoor and indoor options, both designed in a minimalist yet comfortable style. The indoor onsen is available for non-staying guests in a 'day-use' format, so it tends to be more crowded. The outdoor onsen, however, is exclusive to staying guests, and in winter, it faces a frozen lake with an endless snowy view. At night, you can even stargaze, greatly enhancing the onsen experience! The experience of soaking in the onsen while snowflakes fall is truly unforgettable. A nice visit to Upopoy at the beginning of November. To commemorate the Culture Day in Japan the entrance was free and there were many events. The park is near Shiraoi JE station in Hokkaido in a small Japanese town but the nature is breathtaking. The territory is big and has several buildings, including traditional Ainu houses. There are also cafes and shops before the entrance with local cuisine. The museum is not small but not big and features a lot of history and culture of the Ainu people. They provide a lecture on the history of Ainu in a cinema-like hall. Everyone was given a receiver to choose audio translation in their language (English, Chinese, Russian, Thai, Korean, if I remember correctly). The lecture about Ainu language was very interesting and we even got to try on アミップ - traditional Ainu clothing. The staff was so friendly and excited to share their culture. If you get the chance to visit, I highly recommend.

As a fan of KAI, I decided to stay at its first hotel in Hokkaido - KAI Poroto! KAI Porodo is set to open in early 2022 and is located in Shiraoi, Hokkaido, next to the famous Porodo Lake. There are 42 rooms in the hotel, and all of them face the lake, which is very beautiful! The hot spring here is also very special. It is a rare plant-based brown charcoal hot spring, also known as the "beautifying hot spring". The most interesting thing is its name, which, in addition to being the name of a lake, also means "enlightenment". Therefore, the core of this hotel is to embody the perfect combination of nature and culture. As soon as we decided to go to Hokkaido, the first thing we did was to book this hotel! Fortunately, we booked early and successfully used the early bird discount. It really is cheaper! So once you decide on a time, remember to book a room first. Once you arrive at the hotel, you will first walk through a long corridor before reaching the lobby. Like other circles, there are local specialty drinks to enjoy. The staff quickly checked us in and introduced the facilities of the entire hotel. The room was really beautiful! In the center of the room is a table that symbolizes the square hearth in the Ainu house. My favorite seat is by the window. I sit here and look out the window at Lake Polo and a large number of birch and maple trees, which is very picturesque. After taking a break, we went to its famous hot springs. There are two large hot spring baths here, namely "△ Yu" and "０ Yu". "△ Yu" requires walking across a small bridge to reach the conical hot spring hut. It has indoor and outdoor hot springs. While taking a bath, you can also enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Polo. I love this spa so much! The "〇 soup" is different from the open "△ soup". It's more like being inside a cave. There is a circular patio at the top of the hot spring, where you can feel the connection with the outside nature through the soft light and shadow pouring in. Because this hot spring is open to the public, the amenities are not as rich as those of "△ Yu", and there are no high-end hair dryers. However, it is still very good! When it comes to food, all I can say is that you can’t go wrong with Hokkaido! The local ingredients are fresh and the traditional Kaiseki cuisine is delicious.
