1. Zhuoshui Ancient Town: Located in the southeast corner of Zhuoshui Town in the southern part of Qianjiang District, it is located on the banks of Apeng River, the main tributary of Wujiang River and the largest river flowing from east to west in China. It is a thousand-year-old ancient town integrating Tujia stilt houses, water transport docks, and commercial towns. The ancient town emerged in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Song Dynasty, and gradually declined after the Ming and Qing Dynasties, but it still retains a relatively complete ancient town structure and historical and cultural heritage. There are five streets, seven alleys, three palaces and seven courtyards. There are four major families in the town, such as: Gong family, Wang family... It is one of the most famous ancient towns in southeastern Chongqing. The residents in the ancient town are mainly Tujia and Miao people. They have lived here for generations, inheriting rich national culture and traditional customs.
Special recommendation: the world's first wind and rain covered bridge: the wind and rain covered bridge across the Apeng River is one of the landmark buildings of the ancient town. It is 658 meters long and was built in the Tang Dynasty. The bridge body is a pure wooden structure. The building materials are connected with mortise and tenon joints, with straight sleeves and diagonal penetrations, and the structure is firm and precise. The bridge has a three-story pavilion with about a hundred carved wooden windows on both sides and red-painted benches inside the bridge. Unfortunately, a fire broke out and the wooden structures on the bridge deck were burned down, but the piers and reinforced concrete structures on the bridge deck were not destroyed. The current bridge was rebuilt after the fire. The covered bridge is not only an important thoroughfare, but also a great place for sightseeing and leisure. There are many pavilions on the bridge with beautiful shapes, which are both practical and ornamental. On a hot summer day, you can find a cool corner to sit down, enjoy the breeze by the river, and appreciate the beautiful scenery around you. You can also go shopping on the bridge at night, and photographers can take aerial photos of the night view, which is very beautiful. Visit the picturesque Zhuoshui River and see the world's first Zhuoshui Covered Bridge. 👍
2. Puhua Underground River: Located about 150 meters south of the ancient town, it is an underground river about 2 kilometers long, with the deepest point of the river reaching more than 20 meters. We first visited the scenic area to see the mountains and rivers, and then took a boat into the underground river to experience the excitement and fun of cave rafting. Karst landforms are well developed in the underground river, and stalactites, stalagmites, stone curtains and other forms of various shapes and sizes form a spectacular underground picture scroll. It is an excellent place to experience natural wonders. The scenic area consists of three natural bridges, underground rivers, large funnels, geysers, Puhua Canyon, etc.
I especially recommend that above the underground river, there are three natural bridges over 150 meters high spanning it, which are the eyes of heaven 👀 like a pair of glasses 👓. The tour guide said it was 2 days and 1 night because there was a dark distance in the middle and you couldn't see your hand in front of you. Telling ghost stories here, it happens to be around the Ghost Festival, and I’m a little scared 😱.
The must-try delicacy is the chicken offal hotpot. At night, there are bonfire parties and various Tujia programs, where you can learn about the Tujia tea culture, go to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in southeastern Chongqing, play with pottery... and have barbecue with friends, drink tea and chat... It's a relaxing and quiet night, it's wonderful.
Zhuoshui is really a secret place for the soul to rest. I like it very much. There are not many people here and I can stroll leisurely... Time brews into fine wine. Zhuoshui intoxicates the nostalgia and washes away the glitz. The water charms the world and it is worth visiting often.
