Sweet Tradition in Every Spoon: A Taste of Old Guangzhou at Ren Xin Lao Pu
After a visit to the nearby museum along the historic Beijing Road, we decided to stop by Ren Xin Lao Pu (仁信老铺), a well-known name in traditional Chinese desserts. This shop has been around for years and is praised by locals for its authentic recipes and nostalgic flavors.
Ambience & Vibe:
It’s a small and humble shop, not much for sitting around, but the service is quick and efficient. Despite the constant stream of customers, the turnover is fast, and we got our order without much wait. It’s the kind of local spot where the focus is on flavor, not flash.
The Desserts:
The desserts were excellent—simple, traditional, and done right. The highlight for me was the black sesame paste (芝麻糊)—incredibly thick, smooth, and fragrant, with just the right balance of sweetness. It really hits the spot if you’re looking for something warm and comforting.
My daughter loved the mango pomelo sago (杨枝甘露), which was refreshingly light and not overly sweet. The fruit was fresh and the texture just right—a perfect cool treat after walking around in the Guangzhou heat.
Service & Experience:
The staff are fast and no-nonsense, but polite. It’s clear this is a local favorite, with a constant flow of both regulars and curious tourists. The menu offers a wide range of traditional options, from hot soups like almond and walnut paste to cold jelly and fruit-based desserts.
Final Thoughts:
If you’re in the Beijing Road area and want a taste of authentic Cantonese sweet soups and desserts, Ren Xin Lao Pu is a must-visit. It’s not fancy, but it delivers what matters most: real flavor
