Let me take you there… Cù Lao Chàm (pronounced something like “Koo Lao Cham”) is a small cluster of islands about 30 minutes by speedboat from the charming town of Hội An. Most tourists never even hear about it. It’s not on the main backpacker circuit, and there aren’t any 5-star beach resorts or glossy tour packages. Which, if you ask me, is exactly why it’s worth visiting. When I stepped off the boat at the main island, Hòn Lao, the first thing I noticed was the quiet. No cars. No honking. Just ocean breeze, palm trees, and the occasional putter of a motorbike. It felt like I had time-traveled to a slower, simpler Vietnam. Later, I joined a snorkeling trip around the island. Hoi An Night Market, located on Nguyen Hoang Street, is a must-visit spot for colorful lanterns, local street food, and souvenirs. Open daily from 5–11 PM, it comes alive around 7–9:30 PM. You can shop handmade goods, try dishes like cao lau and banh mi, and enjoy boat rides or lantern-floating on the river. Great for photos, food, and cultural experiences. HoiAn night market is one of great places for locals and tourists to find great food and souvenirs. Need to do some bargaining to get the great deals. It is located next to ancient town. Hoi An Night Market is a great spot to visit with colorful lanterns lighting up the streets and a lively atmosphere. However, it can get pretty crowded, especially in the evening and night. You may also buy an Old Town Ticket at the entrance to the old town to get entry into five of Hội An’s heritage buildings.

When we were at Hoi An in Jan 2025, the locals have highly recommended us to watch the Hoi An Impression Show. It is a breathtaking spectacle that celebrates Vietnam’s rich culture, history, and heritage in a truly mesmerizing way. Set on an open-air stage surrounded by water, the show combines stunning visuals, dramatic storytelling, and intricate choreography to create an unforgettable experience. The vibrant costumes, traditional music, and artistic performances showcase the beauty of Vietnamese traditions, from ancient dynasties to the charm of Hoi An as a historic trading port. We like the show very much and it is very impressive. The eco seat ticket fees is 540kVND/pax. Before World War II, Hoi An was called "Faifo" in Western countries such as France and Spain. It has been listed as a "World Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO, and its cultural and humanistic traditions are still well preserved. An interesting website Tripadvisor conducted a poll in 2011 on the top 10 most attractive food cities in Asia, and Hoi An ranked sixth. I traveled to Da Nang and Hoi An with my mom and visited Han Market and Hoi An Old Town. Han Market was fun to explore as it offered a variety of local ingredients and souvenirs all in one place. While bargaining is necessary when purchasing items, it was a great place to browse without any pressure. Hoi An Old Town was truly beautiful. During the day, it had a serene atmosphere, and at night, you could enjoy a romantic night view with colorful lanterns. There were many charming cafes and delicious local foods in every alley, making it a place where you could spend the whole day without getting bored. Overall, it was a trip where we could feel unique charms, and it was even more special because I could create good memories with my mom.
