Peru Cusco-Saqsaywaman Archaeological Site Day2
2024.08.22 This morning, I went to Calle 7 Borreguitos, a popular spot on Instagram recently. The stone steps here are breathtaking. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from my residence, and the whole journey is uphill and downhill. When I arrived at the scene, although it was already past eight in the morning, there were still many people waiting in line to take pictures. Luckily, the queue was not long when it was my turn. On the way, I met a tourist from Taiwan and asked him to take a few photos for me. As expected, the truth that "passersby rely on luck to take photos" was fulfilled. Later, I set up a tripod and took a few satisfactory photos myself.
Then, I walked to Saqsaywaman, which I didn't go to yesterday. It took about 15 minutes to walk from Calle 7 Borreguitos, but it was almost all uphill. It turned out that I bypassed another entrance to this attraction yesterday. It's really worth knowing it earlier! And it turns out that there is a road connecting this place with the white Jesus statue!
I spent three hours walking around this huge ruins complex, stopping to take photos and resting. The closer it got to noon, the fewer people there were, because most of the group tourists had left.
Saqsaywaman
This is an Inca-era fortress in northern Cusco, 3,701 meters above sea level. The most famous thing here is the huge and perfectly cut stones, which fit together perfectly without any mortar. This 15th-century complex was built under the rule of Pachacuti, the Sapa Inca. In 1983, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Cusco.
BTW, this place name sounds very similar to sexy woman. Before I realized this, I wondered why everyone shouted sexy woman when taking photos here!
After leaving Sacsaywaman, it didn't take long to reach Parroquia de San Cristóbal. The bell tower here is very famous, and you can often see people taking photos here on Instagram. Although tickets (10 sol) are required to go up to the bell tower, I did not go in, but just took a few photos outside.
At noon, I decided to book an itinerary for tomorrow's trip to Rainbow Mountain and the Sacred Valley. After comparison, I found that the closer the travel agency is to the Plaza de Armas, the higher the price. In the end, I chose a reasonably priced travel agency, Andes Path Peru, and their service feels good. Next, I will see how the itinerary experience tomorrow is.
For lunch, I finally did not go to the market, but found a cozy restaurant. The 15 sol set meal included a salad, a main course of fried chicken with fries, and a drink. Although the price is not high, the fried chicken is tender and juicy, which exceeded expectations.
In the afternoon, I used the package ticket to visit the Regional Historical Museum of Cusco. It is a museum with rich historical and cultural significance. The museum is located in a colonial-style building, which was once the residence of Gabriel Condercanqui, a famous Peruvian revolutionary leader.
The museum's exhibition content mainly displays the historical development of Cusco and the Andes region, including cultural changes from the pre-Columbian Inca civilization to the colonial period. The exhibits in the museum cover many important archaeological relics, colonial art works, statues, paintings, and daily life items, allowing visitors to gain an in-depth understanding of the evolution of the city of Cusco.
This place is not large, and I walked out in less than 30 minutes. Later, I bought a cup of fresh milk ice cream from a roadside stall, with cinnamon powder, simple, sweet and delicious. Only 3 sol, absolutely worth it.
For tomorrow's itinerary, I went back to the hotel early today to rest and take a nap hahahaha🤣
